Water elbow

Water elbow
I just noticed that the the water elbow that goes on FE intake, behind the thermostat housing, can be at least two different thread sizes. Didn't notice until I went to swap the elbow from the 72 manifold onto a 67 manifold and the elbow fell into the hole.
Now Number Dummy might be proud in that I pulled out the Parts CD, going to need tutoring on usage, and zeroed in on the illustrations. Where the fitting goes the illustration showed just a plug. Was I wrong? So I checked the illustration for a 302 engine and did see a water elbow just behind the thermostat housing.
Now the small block elbow is made in reproduction but several calls could find nothing on a reproduction for the big blocks. Considering that these things rust away I was surprised. Is there no replacement to be found? Or do I get a fitting from the hardware store to step up the thread size to fit the hole in the intake?

According to FTEPartsGuy the part is now obsolete from Ford and they don't have any. The suggestion about local Carquest doesn't pan out because they only have plastic elbows. May need to call Galvin Ford but then what Ford dealership ships parts out to individuals? I have never heard of one set up to do that....

FE intake manifold water elbow-obsolete-here's who has stock..

You can have your local dealer call Galpin Ford who will then ship it to them.
If for some reason they won't, I will go over to Galpin, buy the part for you (at a discount because I know a coupla of the guys there) and send it to you.
Galpin is 35 miles RT away from my home. You can't beat that deal with a stick.
Meanwhile...let's see who else might have one, or more...
Kinsel L/M in Beaumont TX has EIGHT.
Bob Allen Ford in Overland Park KS has FIVE.
Matlock Ford in Franklin IN has TWO.
6 other Ford dealers have ONE each.
But wait...there's more!
The following are Ford obsolete parts dealers (yes, DC also sells obsolete parts).
Parts International in Farmers Branch TX has 13: 888-727-0418
Dale King Obsolete Parts in Liberty KY has 1: 606-787-5031
And...
Dennis Carpenter has TWO of the original part number of B7A18599A: 704-786-8139.

How the hell do you know who has got what around the country??? Do you spend all day calling them or have some secret computer connection to gather all this data??? Maybe I'll check with DC first this Tuesday before anything else. I've got a great looking one already only it happens to be sitting in my 410 Merc...

Many of the Ford obsolete dealers (like Green Sales, Dennis Carpenter, Parts International, etc.) have their inventory listed, some Ford dealers are also listed.
Select Ford or Ford truck, type the part number(s) in, hit submit, whoever has it comes up...it's as EZ as pie.
The one thing y'all must do, is type the Ford part numbers without spaces, without hyphens...like this for example: c6az18599b or b7a18599a.
Sorry...there are no CV, CVL or CVE parts listed that I know of (CV = aircraft carrier).

So much for the part number above that I ordered. Turns out it is also too small for the intake manifold. Only 5/8" while the manifold size is 3/4". Back to square one. To think the only thing holding the truck back from running is this water inlet.
Turns out I need another part C???-87710-S for the above fitting to work. Is there such a thing as a coupler that takes a 5/8" pipe thread and steps it up to 3/4" threads?
I'll say one thing about the parts CD though. It is a bear to use. The illustration section is relatively easy to use but you only get a group number. Then you are supposed to go to the alphabetical section and find the part. That is assuming that you and the book call it the same thing. Water inlet doesn't seem to be in the alpha listing so that means I am calling it the wrong thing. As a result I can't locate the proper prefix for the group number and with 9,000+ pages you just don't simply flip through them.

It's only hard the way you are doing it.

No you do not! Dang it...no wonder you're having a problem and find the part.
You are doing it all wrong. Once you have the group number, just go to the text section to the basic (group) number you just looked up.
EDIT: This is just a plug.87710S is shown under the intake manifold = basic number 9424.
For chassis parts, it's just like counting as the numbers begin with 1001 and go thru 19999.
There are separate groups for each specific section.
Wheels. drums hubcaps are 1000 / Brake shoes, e-brake cables, etc are 2000 / steering is 3000 / rear axle is 4000 / Frame/exhaust is 5000 / engine is 6000 (352/360 390 is in section 60.7) / M/T is 7000 / A/T is A7000 / Cooling is 8000 / Fuel is 9000 / Generator/instrumnt cluster is 10000 / Starter is 11000 / Ignition is 12000 / Lamps are 13000 / Misc electrical is 14000 / Accessories are 15000 / Front sheet metal is 16000 / Speedo, mirrors, jack: 17000 / Heater is 18000 / A/C is 19000.

To find specific hardware numbers, look under the basic (group) part number it's shown with.
Excepting hardware numbers, with Ford the group number is the basic part number. Adding a prefix and a suffix gives you the complete part number.
Forget the alpha section, that's only used it you can't find an illustration.
