electric window problems

My wife's Bronco II is having some window troubles.

First the driver's side. The window does roll up and down, but the motor sounds like its really laboring and the glass moves very slow, almost like its going to grind to a halt.

On the passenger's side, the motor runs, but the glass will not go up. It will go down, but it does so all herky-jerky, bouncy and notchy like.

What could be the problem? What should I look into replacing?

Thanks!

Head over to PartsAmerica, type in the year/make/etc...

Look for something called: Window Lift Motor Gear Kit.

The jerky one probably has the gears on the way out. It happens-- Not sure on the install procedure. A haynes or chiltons manual should cover it.

The one that is just "Slow" Could be either the motor on the way out, or the gears and moving parts might need to be cleaned and relubed up. (my BII is doing the Slowwwwwwwwww dance with our windows as well...)

Most likely the gears...But you'll know more once the door panels are removed and you can do a formal inspection of the parts.

Both problems could be related to wiring. The harnesses tend to rot over time, especially the pass. side because it crosses in front of the battery and soaks up acid.

The thing to do is run (2) 12g, 15 foot long (so you can use them for other things), color coded Red/Blk, fused (15 amp) test wires with small alligator clips to each motor directly from the battery while the vehicle is running and see if the problems stay the same. That is how I start without throwing parts at the problem. Putting a rocker on/off switch in the red wire is not a bad idea, helps preventing ARcing.

One area I've noticed on ours, and also the salvage yard ones... There is most likely a wire going from the positive side of the solenoid over to the 'main power/fuse' block under the hood. Ours has heavy damage due to battery acid (it's mostly green and crusty) Also the ones in the yard when I went to look for a replacement? All in the same condition--or WORSE!! This is one area I forgot about until Reb' mentioned it...Good catch!

window problems

I too have had window problems The one that is jerking is most likely the plastic gear in the motor housing Well it's really not a gear it's three plastic deals that turn and they get worn down. You can get them at napa. In case you don't know you can take the window motor out with three bolts by drilling three coresponding holes over the bolt heads you'll see what I'm talking about when you get in there It's much easier then taking the whole assymbly out. Hope this helps
