Boost Pressure

Im looking to get a boost gauge, but im not sure if I should go with 0-35 psi or 0-60 psi. Any suggestions? Also cant decide between the autometer cobalt or the cobalt 2. Which does everyone like? THanks

I dont have the opinion on which type but as for numbers, unless you plan to do some serious modding, then the 35 psi should be plenty. you only make 15-18 stock....

if you plan on keeping stockl injectors then get the 0-35. it will look much more impressive when it builds boost. but if you plan to get stage 1's or 2's then get the bigger gauge.

Your stock turbo will not take much boost over 30-35, on regular basis. I run the 35 gauge with two's and seldom run the boost much past 25. Also on a 35 gauge you more needle movement at the low end 2-10 (it's marked every 2) on the 65 gauges that I have seen it starts at 5. Just my .02

What they all said. I have Cobalt 2 gauges and they are very nice! But they are too bright. I have them resistored down and I still have to dim them at night when driving.

What's with the 18 PSI stock claims... is that stock intake and exhaust too? My truck is "stock" with a 6637 filter and 4" turbo back exhaust and I have no problem hitting 22 PSI empty when floored, I can get higher when on a grade or pulling a load.

stock intake and exhaust don't help but you must also remember you have larger injectors and turbo that is set up different than the OBS.

I'm running an early bird, I think I have the same injectors as the OBS (AB code). I still see other SD guys claiming the same 18PSI max stock and could never understand why. Even with the conservative fueling of the original Cali emissions PCM I could get 22 psi when I mat the go pedal.

Your injectors are the same size as cali emissions OBS which I known to create more power (go figure!) so there is a difference over 90% of the trucks out there. At the same time boost is different from truck to truck. My old 95 with no mods at all hit 20 PSI. It has TEE5 programming which is known to be a "hotter" program. Some guys here can barely hit 20 with a tuner. Different trucks different numbers.

I didn't know the early bird cali injectors were bigger than the OBS injectors, learn something new every day.

yep OBS federal use 90cc injectors (AA's), OBS cali and early 99's use 120cc (AB's) and late 99 to 03 use 140cc (AD's)

I am surprised to read this, I too am hitting 22+ boost on my 97 with stock squirters non-cali truck. All I got is straight through and down pipe with intake, 10k, shimmed fuel and a 120 IDM. I sit around 20psi empty, 22-24 GCWR 13,500lbs

That is exactly where mine was before I did my sticks. I could hit 25 every now and then.

i am running the superchip, intake, exhaust, icp and eot mods, and i can barely touch 20 psi, and its only as i am within the last 1-200 rpm of the limiter, typicly i only see 16-17 psi as a max. i did lose about 2-3 psi with the 6.0 cooler so if you factor that my max is still only 23 psi.
