I've got to agree.... mall crawlin' yuppie trucks have pissed me off for a while... Although the conversation is starting to get a little absurd, I can still totally relate.....
That guy just came to insult us. There's no reason he should have. If he didn't like the thread he could have skipped it. If he didn't like the idea's in the thread. He could have posted without acting like he was an immature little twelve year old.
But nooo..

Well, of course at least some of the guys who actually own the mall crawlers are gonna see this thread and be pissed. And then they come in and try to rain on our parade like that guy....
If you think it is bad here, you may not want to venture over to Pirate 4x4s forums!

That was just bit of a sarcastic approach on my part (rolls eyes). I am a member over there too. These guys dont get half as bad as some other places I am also a member of.
I actually dont think we will see that cat again. Perhaps he got a little hurt because he fit a particular category, but he did claim that he went off road. That makes him cool right? Maybe he just wanted to provoke some stimulating conversation. So far it has been amusing.
Heak, everyone has an opinion, so no harm no foul, though he did seem to have his panties in a wad. Maybe a bad day you know.
Sometimes folks get vocal and have to type out some frusterations. This I understand. Others make light of situtations and have fun. Others take matters way too seriously.
Remeber if worms had guns, birds wouldn't mess with them!
We should get back to topic though and ignore that guy......but yeah I pretty much agree with most of the other guys in this thread. A mall crawler is a truck that was made to look all big and bad and is usually all gussied up and shiny but would break within the first 5 minutes of a real offroad situation. I think a prime example of this is the newer civilian hummers (like h2's and h3's). They are pretty much out-of-the-box mall crawlers....
Truck that is built to look like an off-roader but would break.
Truck that is built so terribly it couldn't go off-road.
Truck too perrrty to go off-road.
Like I said, can't have mud clogging up those spinners can ya?

So i got a question..... Quite seriously, If a truck was built up, for looking nice, and for purpose, such as mine, (4in lift, level kit, 35 at's, 18in wheels) would it be considered "Mall Crawler"? I built it this way, because I dont need an extreme lift, to go play in deep mud and stuff, but i do have to take some trails, pulling trailers loaded with quads and equipment to the hunting camp..... SO if built for that purpose, Mall Crawler?

It sounds fairly practical. I think it would come down to how much of the truck (and the underside) is chrome plated!

It's your truck. It's your hard earned money. If you want to lift your 2wd truck and slap some mudding tires on it, good luck. Nobody has the right to say anything. It's your stuff; do with it what you will and ENJOY IT! Everyone has opinions, but opinions don't pay your bills!!
If my truck's a mall crawler, so be it. She works for me too.
I will admit to the chrome wheels/bull bar/billet grill just for looks......... And if its a mall crawler, so bee it. She works for me.
Found this one on craigslist...... wow......
Nothing mall crawler about your truck man. You have a very nice looking Super Duty and a practical one at that. You are not afraid to get her in a little mud as we can see, but all in all it does not fit the mall crawler category. Your SD is capable of dual duty. Both on and off road the envy of most others out there.
Now that Escalade, that is screaming "mall crawler".
Lets go over osme of the things that make this a mall crawler.
Tires and wheels:
Why? 49" Iroks are pretty bad a$$ stuff right? Not on a 1/2 ton caddilac with IFS. See the caddy is simply not capable of getting these thing rolling, let alone get them stopped, and throw some terrain a little more difficult than a sloped driveway, and this truck becomes useless.
The wheels can be 20's thats ok, they can be polished, or chrome, that does not matter, but if it is a 20 wrapped in a 49" swamper and has 6 lugs, it screams mall crawler.
Axles:
How can we tell that they are way too small" GM bever made a cadillac or any other GMC, or Chevy on this platform with a capacity high enough to use 8 lug axles. Besides, it still has the IFS. Simply not strong enough to get out of its own way let alone be practical for any off road use. Also note the lack of manual locking hub, or even a drive flange. This uses an axle disconnect. Very weak stuff.
Giant body lift:
Notice the daylight through the rear wheel wells. Dead give away that this truck was built to impress visually and not function.
Use of giant blocks for lift:
Not the shape and angle of the rear leaf spring and see how tall the rear block has to be in order to make an attachment point to the axle. Yeah,,,mmmmm this is starting to look bad.
This actually has me baffled because this particular platform shoud have a coils spring in the back. Maybe Im seeing something that is not there, but,,,,,,,who knows. Still a pile.
For any and all practical purposes this rig is a liability and not an asset on any trail. It is not capable of staying together and would find its way behind a tow rope all day.
Sure is nice looking though. Makes quite the impression when he pulls up at starbucks.
I've heard these guys talk about there rigs, they usually say, "yeah, when I take it off road, I cant get it stuck", or, "it goes anywhere".
Well I have been "anywhere" and I aint seen any of them there.
Good to hear mine's not classified as so. She does what i need her to do, and get's me where i need to go, and some places that i really shouldnt be. HA. She got a lil shine to her, but what pretty girl dont like a lil bling? Even the redneck down in the muck girls down here in Louisiana like to look pretty every now and then.
