This is the stupidest thread I've ever read. You DUDES are seriously sitting around stressin if your truck is a mall crawler? WTF.
Dude if you got a big diesel and your pulling stuff, that is what it was meant to do, pull trailers. Ford isnt sitting around going 'OMG what if this tranny isn't good for all the crawlers and nose boggers"
Dude these trucks were made to haul, if fact the company you love so much is putting 20" chrome wheels standard on the new 08-09's.
It don't matter if you throw some nice rims on. 18's on 35's look to me as normal, not "mall crawler" 20's on 38"s look like they go together.
You guys are claiming that being a "mall crawler" is someone who is sensitive to how their truck looks, well you idiots are sensitive to how your truck looks and you make sure it stays dirty cuz thats your style. YOUR JUST AS BAD , WELL NOT AS BAD, BUT YOUR DOING THE SAME THING MENATALLY AS THE MALL CRAWLERS ARE AND YOUR MAKING FUN OF THEM FOR IT. The mall crawler thing does look really stupid though and I can see where your coming from, but some of you are telling a dude with a 6" lift with some 18" chrome wheels a "mall crawler"???? The dude probably hates the hell out the mall if he's anything like me. Last thing he'll probably be doing is crawling around he mall. I have an 08 f250 with 20's on 37"s w/ 6" lift and mine is shiny most of the time, but hell I take it to the dunes, I use it to pull my snowmobiles up deep in the mountains. I go through big trails and over stuff in 4LO at 1 mile an hour. Then put it in 4HI when things just turn to mud and tear it up. But yeah I take the pressure sprayer to it and wash it often and even wax it. Man the wax just keeps it looking new even if I do abuse it.
"MALL CRAWLER" you guys cant be serious, not on a flipping geek computer internet site. If you guys are "real muddin mountain men" you shouldn't even know what a computer looks like or even how to use one.
"we'll ya'll I got ta gidde up and git, gots to gets hoooome and ?LOG-IN? ----->dosen't even sound right does it
Man, you just wasted alot of your own time typing a bunch of BS. If you don't agree to what some people think are mall crawlers, thats your opinion. You have your opinion, we have ours. I think mall crawlers are trucks that are either 2wd and lifted huge, or just to damn big to do anything offroad, especially when their 6ft in the air with 52's under it and everything chromed out and painted shiny underneath. It's a personal opinion so leave it at that. We don't need everyone acting like their back in gradeschool and complaining now do we.

Apparently you didn't read the thread title as closely as it may seem. Was it not clear enough? Did you not sound out all the words? Personally, I enjoy this thread, especially the pictures. I also keep my rig as clean as I can when time permits (work and family take up most of it), but I look for any excuse to leave the pavement. I didn't buy a 4wd for it's resale value or how cool the solid front axle looks sitting in a parking lot. I bought it to take to the hills and explore. Mud, sand, dirt, rocks, it doesn't matter. Even at stock height the SD is capable. The only drawback is the breakover point (156.8" wheelbase means it's easy to high center with almost 13' between wheels). I get a lot of weird looks from the Jeep guys as I'm motoring around with them. Sure I've got a lot of custom pinstriping, but I don't plan on selling it so all my scratches are "battle scars" and each one has a story.
You seem like the guy who would complain to a radio station that you don't like the music. If you don't like the music, DON'T LISTEN TO IT.
If you think a bunch of people posting pictures and bagging on some trucks (with more invested in them than I make in a year) that can barely go over a curb without tipping over is absurd and offensive, then DON'T READ THE THREAD. Some of us enjoy a good laugh and don't take ourselves seriously. Plenty of people think I'm crazy to take an 8000lb truck off into the hills. That's their opinion and they're entitled to it. I'm sure that they go home at night and are posting on-line that "this crazy redneck guy at work...". That's their right to free speech.
I haven't spent the last 17 years defending this country and our freedoms for you to voluntarily find something you don't like, then squelching their opinions because you don't like them. That's like you coming over to my house, opening my door, coming in (without being invited) and telling me you don't like my furniture. You weren't invited, go home.

Ford has been doing that since long before the 2008s....
The Ford Harley-Davidson Alliance spawned the first production vehicles to get 20" rims--the 2000 Harley-Davidson F-150s. (The Prowler slightly pre-dated this, but it only used 20" rims on the rear axle.)
The 2005 and newer Harley-Davidson F-250/350 Super Duties got 20" rims to further distinguish them from rest the Super Duty lineup.
In 2006, The Lariat & King Ranch Super Duties got the option for 20" rims. In the same year, Harley-Davidson F-150s moved up to 22" rims.
In 2008, Ford extended the 20" rim option to also include the XLT and FX4 optioned Super Duties.

But when your big diesel is 6 feet higher than any trailer out there its kind of hard to pull stuff isn't it?

This is the OFF-ROAD AND 4X4 FORUM. I just can't see you taking a truck four wheeling with chrome 20's. Mud might clog up the spinners eh?

Are you serious? Most of these trucks DO get washed. Maybe take a look around. Man I can't wait till Ed jumps in this one, i'll bet you he'll throw some pretty good information your way.

1MPH? What are you a wuss? Most people do wash their rigs. And i'll even bet most of the owners of the rigs on these forums maintain them better than you maintain your truck.

How is this a geek computer site? Most of these people probably work harder and make more than you do. Nobody in this forum claims to be a mountain man. (That I have seen.) We're normal people just like everyone else and we enjoy taking our trucks off-road. Stop being so dumb and stereotypical.

And you say WE'RE the stupid ones? Congratulations for being the first to ever say that sentence on these forums. Now stop acting like you're 12.
And I even quoted all of those sections to address them specifically. Just because this guy is soooooooo lame that he thinks he should just stereotype the entire off-road forum for having a thread, which i'm pretty sure most people just laughed about it. Nobody was even stressing this. And most of the definitions in this thread kind of contradicted what this guy said. He says he has some Ford with 20's and 37's he takes in the woods. But he's acting like he's 12. Well i'll end this long ass post so you all can get some critisism towards this kid.

I just wasted 3 minutes of my life by reading your dumbas$ post.
Go frost your hair, put on your $50 abercrombie shirt, your $100 pants and fancy shoes. Get in your brand new f250 (I bet you got mud grapplers dont you) and head to the high school hang out spot to impress all the little girls.

Man. you guys are brutal. Thats cool, but I gotta tell you that I fit the "Mall Crawer" description.
Yup, remember when I replied the first time?
Orange truck has electric steps. Good old door switch activated electric steps. I also have reservoir shocks. My junk stays clean and gets washed whether it needs it or not.
Red Truck, stays clean, its ugly, and probably the least liked from the mall crawler crowd, but it does have some fancy pants shocks and some bling.
Crew cab has lots of shine, and some pretty fancy paint and stuff. Heak I've even fitted with some one off weld wheels that I gurantee will never see on any truck of that era. yup, 20's. Even bought a set of "Rockstar" wheels just because I might like the black out look. King Reserviors for this one too.
Although,,,,,, even though my junk has the appearance of a mall crawler, every truck is equiped with big axles, and detroits out back. Each is capable of wheeling with just about any crowd (street legal anyway) and each has enough power to make even the cool diesel mall crawlers seeing my tailgate(s).
I think where things get funny is when none of the stuff is functional, or rarely sees anything its original purpose was ever designed for. I aplaud the guy that uses his rig and especially the guy that has the beans to run a newer truck on the trail.
I visit the dunes a bunch. Every year, several times a year, and even my old truck pulls out a bunch trucks that think they have what it takes because they went out and dropped 20 grand on tires wheels and a lift that was not so functional. Not much articulation, they seldom have the proper ratio and I have not seen too many that even have a rear locker. Probably why they are stuck in the sand so often. Heak, I dont even have them disconnect the trailer, I pull the entire thing, truck and all. Does not take too much when the truck that was stuck was not all that well equiped in the first place. Just ask them "where they want it parked" and that "I will check on them when they need to leave". Most mall crawlers dont even know that airing down the tires is a good thing. probably because thay paid some extra dough for nitrogen because the dude at the tire store told him the big tires needed it.
Though I should not bag on that because I too run 78.1% nitrogen in my tires. (See who gets that one, lol)
Yup I buy mall crawler parts and I use them. Although I regret the electric step thing. I thought they would be cool, but only found that they only work on trucks thtt dont see much mud. Unfortunately mine sees far to much for the steps liking. They just get ruined on the mud. Could have used that money somewhere else. Like my new Kaase heads! Aluminum heads are mall crawler right???? I think so.
I am also thinking about taking back that "new" Abercrombie shirt I just bought.......shoot my feelings are hurt
