Anyone having a dove hunt?
I saw yesterday where Sept 1 is opening day. If we could take them in my neighborhood we would be set as there are tons around here. I'm trying to find some place to make some noise around here. Just wondering if anyone else was into blasting those little boogers.

Shooting skeet is what got me started hunting. My pops was in the AF and we were overseas and couldn't hunt. So we gave skeet a try. I shot pretty regularly for many years, but then fell off. I'm planning on going this weekend, first time in a long time, I hope I don't embarass myself too bad.
Glenn-I'm the same as you. There is some WMA land below me in Coffee Co but last time I went on WMA land I got peppered when any bird would fly by, dove or not it got shot at.

i would think if your hunting something, you should at least know what it looks like.
You also get the people who just want to shoot stuff and if it is in the air they'll start blastin' away. Tweetie birds are fair game to them...
You'll have a good time if you go skeet or trap shooting.

I'm a member of Memphis Sport Shooting Association. We have 10 skeet fields & about the same number of trap fields plus a great sporting clays course. Its changed often so you can't learn all the shots.I'd say sporting clays is the best practice for hunting doves. You get all types of shots& all are like those you see in real wing shooting.

When I come to Memphis next we'll have to go shoot.
There is a field in Nashville that is something like $9 a round for skeet. There is also Big Springs in Murfreesboro that is supposed to be $4.50 a round. I have tried for 3 weeks to go but work and honeydo lists keep getting in the way.

I pay $3.00 per round of skeet or trap.I got in MSSA before the big price increase. I pay $180 per yr dues plus I paid a one time $250 fee to join. It pays for your background check which every member must pass. We don't want any outlaws in the club
Its $400 fee now & $250 a yr for new members.Your wife & kids get in for only $10 per yr so its affordable for me.Its the shells that cost me the most. I never shoot less than 4 boxes if I go.
