Full tank, guage shows empty

Here's one for you. Here at work we have a 2008 f250 crewcab lwb gasser
The fuel guage is showing empty even when there's a full tank of gas. The truck has one of those idiot clusters that tells you your miles per gallon and so on. for the miles to empty it just give us three dashes.
The problem started right after the truck was run down to about 3 gallons left in the tank. Truck was filled up with about 32 gallons of gas and now the guage constantly reads empty. The truck also sees about 50 miles of use a day on gravel roads only that are moderately bumpy, lots of hills and curves.
Has any one heard of this problem? Is there a simple fix? The truck only has about 5 thousand miles on it.
Ford won't send a tech over to our location to fix it on site, and for us to get it to the dealer requires a barge at a cost of $10,000 and then there's the down time of the truck and lost productiuon. Any help woukld be appreciated. Thanks, Chris

Sounds like the float is stuck in the down position. I'd drop the tank (if you have to to get to it) and have a looksee.

10K? Holy crap...and I thought it was expensive to send a vehicle inter-island at $200 one-way...

this is a common problem with ford,,, this being my 3 rd truck I have replaced 4 floats

dont let the stealership tell you that you have to buy the entire sending unit...this is UNTRUE. the float should be about 2 to 3 dollars.

Good LUCK
