I remember reading about the Dodge story a while ago. Alberta, maybe Sas., can't remember which. The bridge is a one lane bridge on a gravel road. The guy was towing a trailer and lost his brakes going down hill, and when he got on the bridge it jackknifed and pushed the cab over the rail.
There is more photo's in the set. The officer is blocking a view of the trailer behind they truck.

I talked to a guy that installed hitches for 5th wheels and he said he hates to see a ford come in. He said it takes forever to drill thru the frame verses a Dodge or Chevy.
Although in that trucks defense it looks like the truck was pushed sidewaysdown that wall and that bent the frame down sideways. That is probably why it caved like that.
I bet it was a ride of a lifetime.

THOSE ARE CRAZY!! Judging from the pictures on the Dodge it went over the rail but scrapped side ways (grinding for you skateboarders) donw the rail and that bent the frame rail over then it buckled. The frame doesn't seem rotted out or anything so I think the frame rail was layed over flat which then lost its strength. Thanks goodness for trailers in both circumstances! Maybe a big heavy trailer will become standard safety equipment!

well it seems to me the same thing that caused the accidents is what saved them, if it weren't for the trailers i don't think nether of them trucks would have crashed to begin with, the trailer is probably what caused the driver to loose control. althought the trailer is also what saved there asses

yea i should have written that more carefully i meant to say that it was the drivers inability to control a truck with a heavy trailer, anyone can drive a empty truck but it takes a lot more skill to drive a truck pulling a heavy trailer and keep it under control i didn't literally mean that the trailer caused the accident but the drivers ability to control the truck with the heavy trailer

i have seen 1 snapped ball as well, it was an reesse 2inch ball from wallmart, he had gotten it in a 3 pack they were made in china it looked like they casted the ball over a bolt an the cast had failed around the bolt. personaly i have a 10 inch drop bumper and my reciver comes out right below that so i don't need a drop hitch for most trailers, so i use one of the tri ***** most of the time, unless its for a trailer i need more drop on witch are typically light trailers to begin with. the tri ball that i use has 2inch solid steel shank and 3 ***** fully welded to the shank, they are pricey and probably about 45lbs or so but i never get worried about it failing.
