Turn signal question

Turn signal question
My 6V M-1 has turn signals, but it uses two sets of tail lights. One set (the upper set) does the running lights and the brake lights, while the other set (mounted to the bumper) is the turn signals. I believe I should have only one set of tail lights. Does a wiring diagram exist that will help me sort this out?
Also, I know that my Dad acquired the tailgate years after he got the truck. I do not know if it is correct for the 52 Mercury, or whether it came from a different model year.

This is an old thread, but one that I found useful when I got rid of the second set of tail lights and put dual filament sockets and bulbs in my truck. It does clean up the looks when you get rid of that second set of tail lights. Your current signal lever will probably not work with the brake light circuit that is needed when you go with the dual filament sockets. read the link and see if this is helpful.

Ooooooor,
look at this drawing, and it will show you how to wire with the aftermarket turn signal switch you can get for Bonus Built now to two filiment parking and running lights.
The colors of the "wires" shown on the drawing coming out of the signal switch are the actual colors, and go to the right places! Please disregard the wiring for my toys (hood lift, fog lamps, etc).
J!
PS if you need it bigger let me know and I'll send you the original. That is until I learn how to make it a PDF file.
