New starter noise
Hi All,
I have a 2001 F250 7.3 SD with 4wd and auto. I just replaced the starter with an exact replacement rebuilt. There is a loud metal on metal sound after starting the engine. I removed the starter and noticed that there was a ware spot on the front on the starter housing on the lip that surrounds the shaft. It might be an inch or so in area. The starter is three bolt and all went in the same way as it came out. I don't have the old starter to compare again, but looked it over at the parts store and it was an exact match including the make. Any ideas????? Thanks

Here is some advice for anyone who has to replace a starter. TAKE THE ORIGINAL AND HAVE IT REBULT!!!!!!!!!! This will save alot of time and trouble. The parts house gave me the wrong starter. The starter for the most part was exactly the same except for the nose on the housing. The original was more flat and the new one pertruded more causing it to rub on the flywheel.
