Who holds the bad injector record?

I just got back from a road trip: GA -> MA -> GA
2,000 miles round trip
'05 FX4 5.4L with 38K starting miles and 40K ending

At halfway point had to take machine to the local MA stealer as truck was running extremely rough and threw a CEL. my edge said it was cylinder 6 misfire. I cleared the code, truck still ran rough, so off to the dealer. anyway 2 days later they replaced the #6 injector under the extended warranty letter that went out to a lot of '05 owners.

One the way back to GA with about 600 miles to go, the machine starts running rough again...this time no code. I got home and took truck to the local stealership and they figured out is was a bad injector on #7. This injector was replaced under the warranty.

So, within 1,000 miles I lost 2 injectors. Does anyone else have a simlar or greater experience? Is there a way I can get all 6 remaining injectors replaced by fomoc before they break under the warranty?

one time me and my girlfriend at the time we where driving up north. the truck was acting weird before we left and it stopped as soon as we got on the free way the engine light came on made it to the next exit which was 10 miles away which was the local ford dealer where she got it from. stopped at a light looked in the passanger mirror and i never seen so much smoke come out of a gas truck in my life. Looked like a diesel. Got it to the dealer they pulled it in shut it off and went to start it again and nothing. Found out that 2 injectors went bad. Truck had I think 25000 miles on it and was a 05 exteded cab xlt. Warranty covered it but they didnt fix the other 6.

Ford will only replace them as they go bad! They are banking on averages, they look totally at cost on these issues and to replace them all on all 05's would be a huge cost. They do the same on any warranty issue, fix only the problem and no more I work on the 6.0l diesel and I must say they hold true to thier word, only what is the problem and no more. I've had diesels come in one week with a bad injector fix it, then days later have to do another and another. But,--- what do I know, ahhh beancounters!!

ranger88a...do you know if the replacement injectors that they are putting in the '05 5.4L under the extended warranty program are of a new/different design? I hope that Ford isn't replacing what appears to be a defective part with the same thing. Thanks.

So far.... 3 bad injectors seems to be the record. I would have thought that this # would be greater give the failure rate.

Injectors

Hello bigmac
When the injectors went, did the vehicle show any codes?
My truck with 42k kms is running rough between 1200 and 1800 rpm. When the vehicle is under load.
2004 fx4 scab. Its like the motor is losing power.
Thanks for your input.
Bageera.

When the 1st injector went out it actually threw a CEL. My Edge told me that it was cylinder 6 misfiring. I cleared the code, the truck still ran rough but failed to throw another CEL. It wouldn't to it for the Stealer either, but on the Shop computer they finally figured out that it was cylinder #6. The second injector never did throw a code, but the motor just ran rough. At idle you could feel the shake in the cab as random misfires occurred. Actually the last thing when the coil went bad the symptons from the 'feel' of the misfiring was identical to the injector issue. As with the last injector, the coil problem did not throw a code. When the coil went out it supposedly fried the plug on cylinder 6, so the Stealer put in a new Autolite plug since they couldn't locate a Champion for me. I just ordered 4 Champion 7989 plugs from Rock Auto at $12.87 each. When they arrive, the Stealer has agreed to put a Champion back in the #6 hole. I'll have 3 spare Champions in case this happens again. I hope this helps.

Does this problem pertain to 4.6 and 5.4 motors? and what years does it cover? I'm new to this forum and I have a 04 SuperCab with 80K and the 4.6. It is an XL model with dealer installed Power Locks/Keyless entry. I have had (0) problems except for normal wear and tear. Just want to be prepared when the truck breaks 100K next year.
