F100 vs F600 Cab/fenders/hood differences?
I know this has been discussed previously but I'm in kind of a hurry and can't spend the time looking through the search archives at this time.
I have a buddy who is getting interested in eventually getting a 56 F100 but he ran across what he feels is a good deal on an 56 F600 grain bed truck with 58000 original miles and always keep in the barn when not in use. He is asking me about the possibility of changing the F600 into a F100. I'm pretty sure the cabs are the same but not sure enough to tell him so. I know the fender wheel wells are larger but what about the hood.....will it work with F100 fenders?
He is thinking of using it as is while he collects parts (F100 frame, fenders, bed, etc) to make the conversion. The F600 has the 312 V8, 4 speed, 2 speed real axle, and the bed tilts. They are asking $700 and that sounds like a deal to me.
Can you give me insight on the F600 cab, hood, and fenders? I don't think this will be for sale to long, especially if Walford hears about it (LOL).
Thanks for any help.

The 312 was only used in passenger cars. It's prolly a 272 and there were three different 272's: Light Duty (L/D), Heavy Duty (H/D), Heavy Duty with a 4V carb.
VIN engine codes: V = 272 L/D / Z = 272 H/D / R = 272 H/D 4V.

Thanks everyone for the help. I finally got to look at the searches late last night and see I'm asking for info that is readily available on the search. Sorry to bring it up again but he needed some input right away and I knew someone on here had a better memory than mine. My friend hopes to make the deal today. He sent me some photos and it looks like a very good old truck. And thanks ND for the clarification on the engine. My friend was going by what the original owner's son told him. Thanks again.

Leckart--where is this beauty? haha!!!
I bought 3 56 f500-600s and the hoods are the same as Sy said--and he knows EFFIES!!
I have been toying with the same idea.
My big 56 is all done, but am seriously thinking of converting her to a F100 also.
I know the running boards are different also.
I just spent alot at mid-50s and Sy should give me a discount for keeping all these trucks on the road-haha
If your buddy does change it over--the yblock is a 272 like N.D. said--same as f100
