Looking to pickup a load of flagstone, a pallet weights 3000lbs, can I put in in the back ok, or should I tow the trailer?

 

Trailer. Truck rated for 3/4 ton (1500 lbs) granted it will carry alot more but if you were in an accident, you would get torn a new one for carring that kind of weight, and some times your insurance company would not pay off due to "owner disregard for vehicle weight rating".

 

Thats what I thought, but couldn't remember what the payload was...

I thought the payload was around 3,000#'s Even if its not the truck will handle it no prob. I constantly put in 2 1600# pallets--Just make sure you got a good set of shoes and pads on.

 

Ya it will hold a lot more then they are rated mine is beefed up but i have had 3 tons of wet gravel in the back a couple times sagged alot but drove just fine.

 

figure the avg 250 has a gvw of 8800 lbs, mine weighs about 7400-7500 lbs. you dont have much extra to play with. it doesnt matter what it WILL do, its all about what it CAN do.

 

also depends on how much his truck weighs to start with. mine is just a reg cab xl and it weighs 5500 lbs. so i could handle a 3k lb pallet and still be under 8800 lbs. its handled it fine on many occasions. but once you start adding an extended cab, tool boxes, bigger tires, etc, you use up that 8800 lbs a lot faster than you think. so yeah, your truck will handle 3k lbs no problems. but unless you have just a bare bones truck, it wont do it legally. just my opinion, but if youre hauling it 2 miles from lowes to the house, i wouldnt worry about it. but if youre going to be on the road for any length of time i would stay legal. not because the truck wont handle it, but because like the others said, if you have a wreck, whether its your fault or not, insurance wont pay for it if you are overloaded.

i dont know about the obs, but on the 99 to about 04 or 05 superduty, the only difference between the 250 and 350 is the 350 has a 4" block and the 250 has a 2". at the end of the day, they will handle the exact same load with the exact same ease, but the 350 gets that 9900 rating because it has a different sticker on the door.
