I've had vista 64 bit running on a new laptop for about a month now...

I really dont see much difference over XP

having 4 gig of ram may be the reason i have so few problems...

Yep, Vista is really only happy with 2 or more gigs of memory. Many companies sold entry level computers, like this laptop, with only 1 gig. They worked ok just long enough to get out of warranty it seems.

I was able to create a new account from command prompt, but Explorer***** crashes about 1 minute after booting and a bunch of services fail to start.
I have a Vista Home Pro DVD coming, maybe I can just install a non-Gateway customized version.

my m series came with 3 gigs of memory. vista does require alot of space,so in time as the more stuff youve added that allocates the space you had left,it will slow down

Well, I got it fixed. I used a Vista install DVD and her serial key, worked like a charm. No more "customized" OS and it runs fairly fast. The customized Gateway recovery files must have been hosed somehow. I suggested a memory upgrade and she agreed.
I set up Office 2007 and a few other apps and she is tickled pink. I even got a dinner date out of the deal.
