you should be able to adjust for different tire sizes using a programmer.

that sounds very suspicious to me. it's a 5 minute procedure for a Ford tech to reset your speedo to account for bigger tires

Tooldad, all Ford dealers with IDS access have the ability to correct the speedo for tire size changes. I too have had dealers say they can't (won't) do it. You are correct that most tuners have the ability to correct for size changes, SuperChips and Bully Dog make units that are designed foe tire adjustment only without power programming. Best way to find a Ford dealer is look for one with a lifted truck on the new truck lot. They seem to be more liberal about doing it.

I went with the S&B CAI and love it. Not hard to install either. Got bout 1.5 more MPG and could tell a huge difference in throttle response and hp. It does sound like a corvette or something when you get in it tho but cool with me. Got some pictures of it in my album.

I love that noise also. My Volant sounds like a snarling Big Block. Especially for the first 5 minutes or so until the engine warms up. Brings back memories of a certain 383 stroker I had

I too noticed a better throttle respons. No HP or MPG gains for me though

I performed a small controlled (as much as possible) experiment to determine if a K&N drop-in does anything for MPG. Here is how I did it:

-Performed 4 trials (2 with used paper air filter, 2 with new K&N)
-Used on-board MPG gauge along with instantaneous MPG readout on EDGE
-Used GPS and cruise control to accurately maintain 55mph for each test
-Took mpg readings while on the same section of road driving in the same direction for each test to eliminate the effects of grade and wind as best as possible.
-Test performed on 2007 F-150 Ext Cab 4x2 3.55 gears

Results were:
Paper filter test 1- 21.6mpg
Paper filter test 2- 21.6mpg

K&N test 1- 21.7mpg
K&N test 2- 21.8mpg

So what this basically tells me is that the stock filter provides plently of air at normal cruising speeds and the only reason for myself to use a K&N is to eliminate having to buy a new filter ever few months. I personally have concerns with the amount of particulates the K&N allows into the engine so considering that on top of this test, my K&N filter will not be seeing my truck anymore. Now, if you drive like a bat out of hell with RPMs much higher than cruising speeds more often then not, you may likely see different results. However, if that is the case, then you also are likely not to care much about your mpg.

Hey tylus you like that exhaust on there?? Not too loud or just a rumble? Thinking about getting something done to mine, I've always done something to my exhaust on my previous trucks I just can't make up my mind on this one with the CAI being as loud as it is when I'm getting in the gas or pulling a trailer.

I Put A Roush Duel Side Exit On My 05 Screw. Sounds Great. I Noticed That I No Longer Only Hear My K&n Cai. Truck Definitely Runs Better As Well.

the Volant CAI are a true cold air intake. they come with a inclosed box, you can buy an optional ram air intake for you volant, I have increased almost 2 miles to a gallon when I dont use the power. the power is their when you want it volant say 25 horse. I would highly recommend

i find it incredibly hard to believe that just a CAI will add 25 hp. it might add 25 peak hp at 6000 rpm but i dont consider that usable. I wish that people would advertise actual dyno charts for their products.
