This is my latest 5% discount code from RockAuto. It expires 8/19. Operators are standing by so take advantage soon: 1090906293678

I need to remember to check the sponsors out for my Escort wagon project too.

I'm gonna get those Aerostar flexes in stock, (Oh wait, I am a sponsor!). Well, I guess its good for an actual sponsor to offer them. Is there anything you want me to carry?

I just bought some AC stuff from Rockauto. Those guys have never let me down.

Mods don't get paid. We're strictly volunteers, but thanks for the thoughts.

Also, the Aero crowd is the best looking, best behaved crowd on the net.... well, I take back the best looking part.

I was checking out Rockauto the other day for a possible replacement for my AC compressor. They have so many different models. Can anyone offer suggestions on which one I should get? New/Rebuilt? Delco/Motorcraft? Some other brand?

Also, I know I should probably replace the accumulator at the same time. Anything else?

Are you converting to R134? With my luck on rebuilt parts, I'm sticking with new whenever it's affordable. I'd go with Motorcraft

I'm still using an HC based R12 replacement, so using mineral based oils.

most a/c compressors in the parts chain now are pre charged with R-134 compatible lubes since R12 was "supposed to have disappeared". mixing any amount mineral oil with PAG is sure compressor death
some use ester oil in FS10s, never have tried it.

ask for a "dry" compressor if you can find one. almost impossible to flush all the PAG oil out of an oil charged compressor. flushing is hard on the seals

new accumulator/dryers almost all come with PAG compatible dessicant which will not work with mineral oils

new Motorcraft if you plan on keeping the rig for several years. rebuilt M/Cs are ok.
Four Seasons also makes a new FS10 but no info on their quality.

I still have about 1 1/2 cases of R12 in the garage. I think I kept it too long, no one needs it anymore.

I resemble that remark! I'd still rather spend $3K refurbing my aerostar than putting it on some less versatile vehicle.

Well this is unsettling. So it means I HAVE TO convert to R134 if I got a new compressor and accumulator? Will Rockauto sell me a "dry" compressor? And where would I even find a minral ooil compatible accumulator? Maybe I'll take my chances looking through the local dismantlers. At least it will be cheap.

Like most people here, I would like to keep my van for as long as possible.
