1994 Cam

I got a 1993 Flareside that I am putting a 351w in, and I was wondering what the cam number for the lightning cam is. Could anyone help me out?

Do you mean the Ford part number or the cam profile?

See the table below. But if you are going through the trouble of changing the cam put something better than stock in it, these motors can use as much help breathing as they can get. I have the Crane 444232 in my 5.8, it works very well and is compatable with both SD and mass air.

Don't waste your time with a GEN 1 cam swap. If you're block has the correct casting number, then a roller cam swap would be a better/inexpensive option.

First off, what have you done, or plan on doing,to your motor?

I haven't done anything to the motor yet other than cone air filters. I dont know what all I can do being that it is SD. I dont plan on boring or stroking, just a senior in highschool here, not making a whole lot of money since they won't give me more than 25 hours a week. I was kinda thinking about some longtube headers, but then I dont know where to run the exhaust down the passenger side since there isn't much room.

The driver side mid-pipe can cross over just under the tailshaft of the transmission. There are several options at that point; go with the GEN 2 style system or dump it past the rear tires or straight out the back.
You can do quite a bit with speed density and an adjustable fuel pressure regulator before any tuning is needed. Also, you can advance the base timing a few degrees too and that'll be a noticeable difference. You'll need to remove the spout connector to do this effectively and higher octane levels will allow the most timing advance.

What type of transmission do you have?

The spout connector is located just below the cruise control servo; it has two wires going into a connector with a molded plastic jumper connected to it. Remove it before advancing the base timing. You should notice a difference if you add 2-3 degrees.

There are shift kits available for your E4OD which will firm and quicken up your shifts and minimize wear during shift transmissions. These kits are fairly inexpensive and relatively easy to install.
