auxillary backup lights
I have a 2001 f150 4x4 4.6 ltr v8 xlt xtr package.I want to install auxillary backup lights controlled by a threeway switch on off on.On lights come on when put in reverse off is off on is lights on so I can hookup trailer or what ever with light.I don't want to pull power from trailer lights but from the battery.I have a 30 amp relay the threeway switch and the lights I just need a easy to read wireing diagram for this type of setup could somebody please help....thanx

The diagram above will give you the main basic wiring. They way you want to do it, you will have to change the wiring a little bit on the trigger wire.
I am going to assume your switch has three terminals, with the center terminal being common. Where it says in the diagram "splice into existing back-up light wire", you will instead hook this to the common terminal on your switch.
There should be two terminals left. One terminal will be hooked into the backup light wire. The other terminal will be hooked to a hot all the time wire, or a key on hot wire, depending on how you want it to work.
The reverse wire is black/pink. There are several places this wire runs. If you have a auto dimming rearview mirror, the black/pink runs up there to delete the dimming when backing up. If you have a tow package, there may be a reverse trailer relay in the fuse box under the hood that is also fed by the black/pink.

dave i do have a three terminal switch with on off on positions.the relay has 5 terminals #30 power #87 aux lights #85 is ground #86 is where i would tap factory backup wire so if hook this to the common terminal on switch #86 terminal is left with nothing connected to it ? Is this correct? Also #87A TERMINAL ON RELAY the 5th one what is that for . Any help would be great thank you..
