Lower A arms

How strong are they? Can they handle the abuse from occasionally scraping on rocks? Or should I build some sort of 1/4" steel skid plate for them?

i hate toyota's too... if you watched the truth about trucks video, you'd be lead to believe that they are massive, really, really, tough. i believe it, but i'd also be 1st on the list to make/buy a good set of skid plates if i was using my truck in a place where they could be damaged!!

Good, I have felt them drag across an ocassianal rock, upon inspection no marks or even a scratch. Just a little paranoid I guess, after my tranny crossmember incident.

well, they are aluminum...

I don't know how you could build skid plates to protect them though. with all the movement they see, just don't see how it's possible

Few months ago I was pulling a 7000 lbs trailer out of a job site and the truck ran over a big rock. The driver side step bar bracket was destroyed and I had to get out from the passenger side. I checked the under carriage and found the A arm only had few minor scratches. I guess the A arms are pretty strong.
