GAS Mileage in 2008 F 250
I am considering buying my husband a new 08 F250 4x4 S/C, 6 speed manual, 5.4L EFI V-8 ENGINE,FX4 trim,30.5 Gallon Fuel Tank. I was wondering what the typical gas mileage is for all of you driving a similiar truck not hauling or towing anything on the highway. I would go with the F150 but they don't manufacture new models with a manual transmission, and the Ranger is way too small, he is 6'5. There aren't many trucks that have manual transmissions anymore and he WON"T go to an automatic! Any input and advice would be greatly appreciated

Thank you WildWildWest and I.B. Washincars for your replies. We took it for a test drive today and got around 13 mpg on the highway, but the truck has been sitting on the lot for a year and who knows how old the gas is??! We are debating between the
F250 and the Toyota Tacoma because it comes in a manual but the gas mileage on the sticker of the Tacoma is 15city and 19 highway and we just don't know if it will be such a huge difference between the two. We would be getting around the same price for both trucks with all the Ford incentives on the 08!

The SuperDuty is built for towing/ working. It is significantly heavier than the F150 or presumably the Toyota. If you're looking for a daily driver that will be driven 98% of the time without a load, you can readily get by with a lighter truck, which will give you better gas mileage.
If your husband is towing a 5th wheel, heavy camper, or loads of concrete blocks or dirt, then you need a SuperDuty. Otherwise, you don't, and you won't be satisfied with the gas mileage.

I can get the incentive of the A and Z plan if they still offer/extend it after tomorrow, or I could get the D plan if it does expire since my family works at a ford dealership, with the current 2000 rebate on 250's but we are just up in the air about what to choose! If we were to get a constant 16-18 mpg highway on the superduty we would be happy because the tacoma is 15/19 and that doesn't seem like such a Huge difference if we were to get 16-18 highway on the 250. But then again we wouldn't be using it to haul anything in the first few years, maybe in the next few years we would use it to haul. It's a truck we want to keep for a long time, but realistically like BareBones says it's built for towing/working! My husband wants a truck and he wants it tomorrow! UGGG! Thanks for the input!

Not even a fair comparison.... they are drastically different trucks, with drastically different performance figures. If the Taco is really in the running.... you should be test driving an F150. You CAN get that kind of mileage out of them.
