The battery light on my dash is blinking randomly..help please
I have noticed the battery light on my dash blinking randomly several different times this last week. Mostly at idle/low RPM and never while actually driving. Today I had the batteries tested, both are good. The alternator output was 14 volts, but it took several seconds (maybe 15 ) to reach 14 volts. My guess is that the alternator is on its last leg. Can any one confirm? Or do I have another problem?
Thanks,
Dan

but before you spend $$ on it;
The belt may be slipping @ idle only because it's stretched see pict.
Does the light goes off if you pop it into neutral?
Clean all your battery & starter connections too.
Check the small wires on top of the alternator, they get damaged fairly easily whenever someone works in the engine bay...laying on them.

I bet a dollar it's the wires on top of the alt. It's a common failure. Have someone sit in the cab and watch the light on the dash. Wiggle the connections and I bet it will flicker. If it does, take the plugs out of the alternator. Remove the red lock that keeps the pins in it. clean and squeeze the pins a little, not much, but a little. Put the lock back in and I bet your problem goes away. I've ran into it twice. My money is on the wire plugs.

Dan,
RubberDuck......has my vote for the first check, the metal clip in the plastic plug gets weak/dirty over time and will not stay attached make good contact to the blade side of the contact....which in turn activates the light intermitently. I cleaned and put a little dab of dialectric grease on the blade and pinched the connector to secure the connection....voila...
