1994 Ford Ranger Brake Lights Don't Work!!!
Hi there! I have a complicated situation. Can someone help?
I own a 1994 Ford Ranger and just recantly the Brake Lights went out. This is confusing because all of the other nightime running lights work. The rear nightime running brake lights work; the reverse lights work; all of the turn signals and the four-way flashers work; the headlights and the passing flashers work; the rear licence plate illuminator lights work; the interior lights work; and the ABS system lights work. Everythig runs perfectly as usual but I press the brake and the brake lights don't come on! I am afraid that I am going to get rear-ended one of these days.
The first thing that I did was check the rear brake light bulbs (two of them, one on each side) which to my surprise were fine. They did not appear to be blown. The next thing that I did was to check all of the fuses which were fine (not blown).
Does anyone have an idea as to what I should do next?
Thanks
J

Brake light switch on the brake pedal.
See if it is dis-connected or slipped out of the housing.

1994 Ford Ranger Brake Lights Don't Work!!!
I'm looking into a similar problem with my 96 Explorer. I've seen several places on the web that say to replace the turn signal switch. Apparently the Brakes and turn signals need to go through this switch and can be the cause of brake light problems. I'm going to give it a try tonight depending on the price

My 96 Explorer had the same problem.
I took it to the dealer and they found an open in the wiring inside the dash. It cost me $175 to have it diagnosed and fixed. You can probably use a dc voltage tester to trace the voltage coming out of the brake switch as far as you can to see if you have the same problem.
Thanks,
Mark
