94 idi turbo, max boost with factory turbo exhaust housing
94 F350 7.3 IDI turbo E4od banks downpipe 3" striaght pipe: I have read some of the other posts on max boost. I am still confused about one thing. To make 10 to 12 psi boost, do I need to get the ATS exhaust snail and outlet housing? The only modification I have done so far is the banks downpipe and straight exhaust. Some say that the factory setup will only go to 5-6 psi even if the wastgate is adjusted for full boost.

High boost needs free flowing exhaust, free flowing air intake path and fuel to the engine.
Not sure how much a Banks downpipe can help with the stock turbo outlet flange.
The stock air intake over the battery is a weak point on the 94 turbo engine.
If the exhaust has to fight to get out of the turbo, lower boost.
If the turbo can not get air, lower boost.
Do you have a boost gauge?
What is the max you can get with your throttle on the floor for 1/2 mile at what RPM?
And do you have a pyrometer?
Where is the thermocouple located and what is the max number you see in trhe above test?
And last, when at wide open throttle, do you see any dark smoke from the exhaust?

I rigged a temporary gauge and ran the 1/4 mile from a standstill with the wastegate diaphram hose disconnected and pluged. 6 psi was the most I saw. I don't have a pyrometer. I don't see much smoke after about 1800 rpm. If I do all of those intake and exhaust mods including the ATS outlet housing and add gauges to adjust fuel, will the stock turbo exhaust snail allow for at least 10 psi ?
I am going to get the hypermax cowl intake.
Hypermax Cowl Induction Installation - Oilburners.net
Hypermax - Product Display
any upgrade over the factory downpipe will make a difference.
i don't think the factory intake snail make a diff +/-.
good luck getting the ATS housing, b/c tehy don't make them anymore. you will have to watch craigs list for one.

On my 94 IDIT I have the Banks downpipe on the factory outlet housing. I shortened the wastegate rod 15 turns, IP turned up about 3 flats, 3 1/2" straight pipe exhaust from the downpipe back, stock intake without the snorkle going over the battery and I can get 10 PSI easliy. I've never held it to the floor for a half mile to see if it will go any higher. It is entirely possible that it is pushing more because my vacuum line going to my boost gauge has a crimp in it under the hood. I can hit 1000 on the pyro pretty easy and got to 1300 for just a minute while towing up a long hill at about 75 mph and not paying attention. I don't see alot of black smoke, just a puff when I mash the go pedal down.
I don't think you can get the ATS upgrade housing anymore unless you find a used one somewhere.
