Sounds of a valve tap

Has there been anybody with a 6.4 having problems with engine tapping? This Increases with the RPM and sounds of a valve tap. And yes I have plenty or oil. Over the last 4K mile I hear it more. Thanks

Heres some info on a service bullettin on this issue:

SOME 2008 F250-550 SUPER-DUTY EQUIPPED WITH A 6.4L DIESEL ENGINE MAY EXHIBIT A RANDOM TICKING/TAPPING NOISE THAT IS MOST AUDIBLE ON A HOT ENGINE AND IS MOST NOTICEABLE AT THE REAR OF THE ENGINE AND INSIDE THE FRONT WHEEL WELLS. THE NOISE RESONATES THROUGH THE CYLINDER BLOCK AND OR HEADS IS HEARD AS A METALLIC TICKING OR TAPPING SOUND, LIKE A SPARK PLUG WIRE ARCING OR LIFTER TICK.THE TICKING OR TAPPING NOISE CAN COME AND GO AND HAS A NONRHYTHMIC PATTERN. ENGINEERING IS AWARE OF THIS NOISE AND HAS AN INVESTIGATION UNDERWAY. AT THIS TIME, THE NOISE IS CONSIDERED AS A NORMAL OPERATING CHARACTERISTIC OF THE ENGINE. THE NOISE HAS NO SHORT OR LONG TERM EFFECTS ON THE ENGINE. DEALERS SHOULD NOT ATTEMPT TO COMPARE ANY CUSTOMER VEHICLES EXHIBITING THIS NOISE WITH OTHER SIMILAR VEHICLES AS THE NOISE IS DIFFERENT FROM VEHICLE TO VEHICLE. MONITOR OASIS FOR UPDATES.

Your fuel filter under the frame rail is full. So, what is happening is you are hearing water being spatted around from the intense pressure of the fuel injectors - 'which is that intermittent tap sound; water being jetted in spurts making that ping sound against the engine.'

Drain your fuel filter under the frame rail. If nothing drains out, you are going to need to stick something into the drain hole because there is crud/sediment preventing it from draining properly Another sugg. would be to shoot a quick little blast of air into the hole. Make sure you use a clear bottle, such as a gatorade bottle, to catch the contaminants. Watch out though, cause once you clear the drain, the fuel/water/sediment will probably surge out and get things a little messy.

Be sure you drain enough. If indeed your fuel/water separator filter was clogged, you will notice some crud at the bottom of the clear bottle. The fuel/water will be a light tint of green with some separation, and the sediment will settle quickly to the bottom of the bottle.

Hopefull this solves your problem.
