I am trying to change the front u-joint on my 96 250 7.3. It has the heavy duty front end, 4600lb, but the retainer nut is different then ones I have seen. It has auto lock hubs. The nut is about 3" in diameter with machined flats on the outside of the diameter. Anyone have a picture of the socket so I know what I am looking for or if I am not seeing something? Thanks.

 

yeah I have it, but no pic. if you goto auto zone or advance or whatever you have and tell them what front axle you have, they will hand you the tool.

 

It is a roundish socket, about 3" in diameter and it does not have any nubs on it, correct?

 

but it has pockets that grab the nut. the D44 socket you are used to has those 4 'teeth' on them. this is sorta inverse to that.
