2000 Ranger

I own a 2000 Ranger w/102,000 miles, truck runs great. Recently the battery light has been coming on when I'm driving at any speed (mostly when RPM's are over 2000). All electrical still works (radio, lights etc....). When light comes on battery needle leans closer to low than high, but upon re-start up needle is midway, and dips as I drive along. Battery itself is less than 3 years old. Serpentine belt is less than 2 yeasr old. Any suggestions.

Could be a dying battery. The only way to tell is to have your charging system tested. Most auto parts stores will do this for free.

Some batteries don't last beyond 3 years.

I still have my factory battery in the truck (2000 Ranger Also). I would check both the battery and maybe the alternator if things go dimmer than normal.

Net, net....need to test both your battery and alternator. Good information in my thread below and lots of good input.

My 2000 Ranger (3.0 4 wheel drive) did the same thing. It was the alternator and the battery was going bad. The truck was 4 years old but ahd 150,000 miles on it. Changed both and no more problems.

I'd have to agree. Go to AutoZone, they'll test it for you!
