sick truck need help troubleshooting problem

Hey guys new to the fourm there has been some good advice. hoping that someone can help me with my 1996 F350 navistar psd with 332000 miles odm. when I start the truck up cold it fires right up and idles great runs like a champ. after it get warmed up 15 to 20 min if I shut it down it has trouble starting again the rpm will bounce up and down irracticly. if I apply fuel it for 30 to 45 secounds it wold settle doown and idle fine. I have changed the IPR Oring and have installed new oring on all off my injectors same problem. also when I slow down to a stop my rpm's will drop like it is going to die to about 300 and then bounce back up to about 600 rpm and the rpms will bounce up and down about 200 rpms at idle. My trans has been shiffting iratticly if I let off the fuel it will shift hard but it will go thourgh all the gears it drive great at highy speed 65-75 mph no problems, If any one has experriance I just to not know were to start to fix this sick truck.

Do you have any codes? this sounds like a cam position sensor to me. Also check your dash fuses, and make sure #8 is ok.(separate idea)

First let me say welcome aboard. I'm not an automatic guy but I seem to remember that there is an electrical switch on the side of the trans that goes bad and causes the type of problems that you are having. If TJBeggs does not see this and post up shot him an PM, I think he is current on this type of problem.

Next time its acting up at re start.. unplug the ICP sensor ,,see if it smoothes out ,,,while you are there ,,look for oil leaking from the sensor....

& BTW Welcome .....

A lope idle can be caused by the transmission range sensor but when that is the case it does it at every start up not just hot restart. Try what Action Rick said first. Is the truck new to you or have you had it a while? Any mods to it?

O K ...the next move should be to get it on a scanner capable of monitoring ICP pressure & IPR DC % ,,,& tell us what you came up with ,,,the IPR may be the problem ...What type of oil are you using & is it due for an oil change?...Is it full?...

Also next time it does it put the truck in neutral. If it does it every time on a hot restart just start it in neutral and see if it still lopes.

PS search youtube for "tjbeggs" or "Lope idle" and you will find a video of my truck doing its lope idle. Does it sound like that?
