Question Exhaust Back Pressure Sensor circuit failure???

Just installed a 6637 air filter, took truck out for a ride on interstate and was slowing down in traffic and truck died down to a idle and would not speed up for 20-30 seconds,(scared the sh!! out of me),engine service light came on for 30 seconds also. Truck seems to be running fine now. Took truck to local A>P> store and read computer.
Computer read 1)Exhaust backpressure sensor circuit failure, 2)code p0605, and 3)code p0470 not sure how long other codes were in there. Any help would be appreciated.

truck died down to a idle and would not speed up for 20-30 seconds,
Elaborate on this if you can. Do you mean the engine stayed at idle regardless of pedal position, or was the engine able to come off idle but would struggle to gain speed as if it had almost no power? Only one of those situations would be related to the exhaust backpressure problem.

The truck would not respond to gas pedal,I thought it died and put it in neutral to restart and realised it was running, went back to drive and it took off like nothing happened. I thought the gas pedal had failed as once before.

After reading other post it looks like I need to clean my EGB tube and get a new sensor.

Ok, if you get no response from the pedal and the engine idles regardless of throttle pedal position, then your TPS is failing. I've had two of them go out on my truck, and the normal repair is to replace the accelerator pedal assembly (it comes with a new TPS). A while back I heard of a store that carried the TPS by itself, but I'm not sure who it is.

Do you have a chip or tuner in your truck? That could easily account for your codes. I don't think your codes match your symptoms. I'd agree with Curtis on the TPS issue.

I replaced the pedal assembly last year when it was acting up , it could be going out again, seems like Ford needs to recall this pedal. I thought the code P0470 was the EBSC Sensor code? I have no clue what the P0605 code is about. I am running a Superchip on the 50hp tow setting, ( pull race car enclosed trailer every two weeks) ,for the last 70,000 miles with no problems. I have 207,000 miles and have never cleaned my EBSC tube or sensor yet but I will this weekend.

Sounds similar to a situation I had a while ago. I replaced my pedal assembly but it did not solve my issue. Ended up being a chaffed wire. An exposed harness on the drivers wheel well was rubbing up against the shock tower. It only affected my throttle response, to the point of having no throttle what so ever.

The 0605 is a code indicating a bad PCM. This could be caused by your Superchip, although I thought they usually threw the 0603 code. The 0470 is the EBP sensor code, but the cleaning is recommended before you dump money on any new parts.

What auto parts store did you go to and get the codes read? Most of the little hand held scanners won't pull codes from our trucks.

Ok, I'll check the harness CGL,thanks for the heads up. Thanks for all the advise F350-6 I'll definetely clean the sensor and tube this weekend, truck has run fine since Monday. I can't believe how much pepier my truck is with the 6637 and muffler delete, almost like changing the chip setting up. The local Auto Zone store has helped me out with their code reader. Where can I look for code number explanations? Thanks in advance...

Here's a quick list for the codes Welcome to guzzle's Diagnostic Trouble Code list Web Page

Next, when you're ready to really learn about these motors scroll down the forum listing past the superduty section down to the 7.3 section. I can't even count high enough to tell you how many folks switched from the superchips to the DP-Tuner and talked about how the low settings on the DP felt more powerful than the high settings on the superchip.

Lots of good info down there. Here's a link 1999 - 2003 7.3L Power Stroke Diesel - Ford Truck Enthusiasts Forums

Thanks, heading down to 7.3 forum now, I'm already impressed with the Superchip in the two tow settings and have not used the 125 hp setting, this is a loaded work truck with two side boxes and a bed floor box and I'm allways hauling a trash or race car trailer.

Exhaust code

I have a '99 F350 that will not start. It shows no codes on a scanner but shows Exhaust Back Pressure Sensor circuit failure on the Edge Evolution I am using. From the conversation above does that really mean anything or just dicregard? Our other thought are ICP or IPR sensors. Anyway to test these sensors?
