Routing of spark plug wires on 79 f150?
This may be an ignorant question for you technical folk but I was reading about the importance of proper routing of plug wires and was wondering if anyone knows the proper routing for a 1979 f150? What I mean is the order in which they lay in the wiring harness between the distributor and spark plug. I was told this could cause problems and I'm not sure mine are routed correctly, so if anyone knows please help me out. Thanks.

Well considering that the right bank has 1-4 and the left bank is 5-8
The important thing is to keep from crossing over each other to a minimum.
You didn't say which engine you had.
To keep them in order to the head > with the valve cover wire holder holder have them in order
1 is the front clip 2 is the second clip 3rd in three & 4th in four.
On engine's with a firing oder that ends in 7-8 you want to make sure those two wires don't run beside each other or get mounted in the clip next to each other.
Ie: 5-7-6-8 in the clip to keep 7-8 away from each other.
This is what you do when you have a firing order of,
1-5-4-2-6-3-7-8

Routing of spark plug wires on 79 f150?
Dennis,
The engine is a 351 modified. Thanks for the info on keeping wires 7 and 8 away from each other. So I understand this correctly, when you say the right bank 1-4 do you mean the #1 wire is the spark plug furthest back in the engine (left side) or is it the one closest to me when I'm standing in front of the truck looking at the engine?
Thanks,
George

When you are standing at the front of the truck looking at the firewall.
In regards to engine cylinder location,
The bank on your left(passenger side) from front to back is 1-2-3-4
The right (drivers)side is 5-6-7-8
My first explanation of these cylinder's was, as they sit in the truck while your sitting in the truck.
With you having a 351M engine
1-3-7-2-6-5-4-8
So in this case you have to make sure that 6 & 5 are separated
Note* With All Ford V-8's the distributor rotor turns
counter-clockwise
Do you have a clear picture of this or are you still having problems with what I'm saying?

Routing of spark plug wires on 79 f150?
Dennis,
Thanks, I believe I understand now. So on the right side (facing firewall) I want to run the wires from the distributor through the wiring harness' in the order of 5768 and on the left side I can just run them in order of 1234, trying not to cross any wires on either side? Thanks again for all the help.
