it will spend time on the street. But it spends alot of time in the sand snow, and trails. won't really spend any time in the snow. Right now it's got the stock 351 but it'll have a fairly nice big block in it soon. I know that the gears will still be high with a 5.38 but didn't know if the pinion would be too small period

definitely go with the 5.13's.
i just did em in my f350. i have a fairly stock motor, but im only running 38's. i'm very soon upgrading to 44's and starting to work my motor more. my truck gets fairly decent gas milage for a truck of its size since the upgrade, and it doesnt scream AT ALL on the street. the only time it screams a little more than i'd like it to is in the mud. the truck spins the tires no problem, and i'f i'm not hooking up on anything, it stays in 2nd and screams a little bit. the downside of an auto trans.
if i really put my foot in it, the e4od shifts from 2nd to 3rd at about 3800, and it has power through all 4 gears.
if your putting a healthy big block in that truck, i'd say stick with the 5.13's. anything taller and i think it would scream/lose top end.

i'm runnin 5.38's in my bronco. i got a 400 in it and i'm buildin a 460 to go in it. it's a all around trail/mud truck and i wanted a little more gear to offset the cam i'm puttin in my 460. i'm still breakin the gears in now so i haven;t romped down on it hard yet but it turnes about 2900 at 60-65 or so and i'm runnin a np-435 tranny

I am planning on running chromos eventually but I plan on breaking mine first. There has been alot of money thrown at this axle already in brackets and steering so just trying to get it back on the road/trail now. The only thing I'm worried about the 5.38s is the tooth count but I guess I can always get them dipped. Not too worried about it screaming down the road since I have over drive. Oh and if anyone needs a really nice hysteer system, you need to look up ballistic fabrications double sheer setup. It is AWSOME!!!! I have it on my 60 now and it looks tough!
