how long can diesel fuel be stored.

When I fill up my truck I've been putting 5 gallons of diesel into cans to save for upcoming hunting trips to save a few dollars. This diesel has been stored for about 6 weeks and wont be used until mid August. Is this ok to do?

It generally depends on how good the fuel quality is to begin with and the conditions it is stored in, but you can usually store diesel for about 6 months. Weather plays a big factor. If you live in a hot and humid climate, the storage may be as little as 3 months. If you live in a cold and dry climate, you may be able to store it for a year or more.

Its always a good idea to dose the fuel you are going to store with something like Power Service or Stanadyne...

Diesel is going to cost about the same then as it does now, is this really worth the effort?

Yea, it is. If I need to refuel on a hunting trip I don't want to drive 60 miles into town.

I agree with this, but just fill the extra tanks on the way to go hunting, why do it months in advance? Then you don't need to worry about its quality.
