6.0 is different than a v 10 (about a $1.00 a gallon)

PERFORMANCE RED is new and has a neutral reputation at this point.
What configuration is your truck? How fast do you drive? Those are all big factors in your milage. I have a super cab long box 4x4 and combined driving I get about the same as you. Every stop light is a christmas tree to me thou.

Well I've been on a project to make my 5.4 get 15mpg all around. I've got it up too 16.6 on a cruise at 55mph, but as soon as stops were intoduced into the equation it fell like a brick.

So far my best findings to increase economy is:

1. If you have a long bed, get a tonneau. If you have a short bed, not necessary

2. Eliminate catalytic converter and add a good flowing exhaust. I've used Gibson. DO NOT ALTER INTAKE! this ends up letting more air in, and the exhaust lets more air out. More air = more fuel. May be good for power, but if you are going for economy, just let it be. The K&N setup didn't give me more power anyway!

3. Autolite iridium plugs. This is just the brand I used, I imagine any hot burning plug would help you out... be carful gapping them! VERY easy to break and VERY expensive to replace.

4. If your truck has an auto, turn off overdrive if you KNOW you won't go faster than 45. In the city it seems keeping the truck in it's powerband is better than letting it shift a lot. I actually have no PROVEN evidence this works, but it seems too. But then again, the 'seat of the pants' instrumentation is known to be faulty.

5. WASH YOUR TRUCK! will this work for economy, absolutely not. But you'll feel better about your truck and swear it's running better.

When I was driving my 01 V10 regularly I'd get 11-12 city consistently. I towed a small boat to the cabin for 4th of July and got 10-11. Keep your foot out of it, let all the tin cans pass you at the stop lights, and get all the maintenance done. I couldn't believe how much of a difference I saw after changing trans fluid!!

I know. I have a buddy that has the v10. He was trying to talk me into buying one for the torque but I don't pull anything big, so I got the 5.4 instead.

The only thing I wish is that I had the highway gears, not the towing ones.

Another factor for any inconsistencies is that some states use 10% ethanol, which just doesn't have the same energy content as the straight stuff.

I am getting the same mileage as you with a standard cab. Its 8650 lbs with over a 400 cubic inch engine. The weight is more than double 2 cars. What do you expect?

I have a 99 SD with a standard cab, 2WD, long bed with a bed cover, 5 speed trans, V10, and 3.73 rear. On a trip cruising around 70MPH, I got right at 15.5 MPG for 1500 miles not towing. On the way back towing a 2500# boat and trailer and a little sightseeing, I got just under 12MPG for that 1800 miles. Most of that was at 65MPH. Around town I get around 10MPH not towing.

I have owned several Ford trucks, and this one gets better mileage than I expected. You bought the truck to perform a specific task, to haul the camper. Don't worry about the mileage. Don't screw around trying to get better mileage unless you want to add more toys. Just enjoy your truck.

10 +/- for me... At least it burns regular, cutting down $/mile a bit.

diesel is really only what 30$ more to fill up? depending on your tank size not to bed if you actually need one vs showing off.

I know the info center, in the rig is somewhat veg. But to feel better, I just reset after reaching highway speed and look just before the first light. Warm up and idling are not to be figured in, with a happy face. BSEG.
My old 83 gets lots less mpg and is always a Kick to light up.

Actually since I own both, a 2 wd superduty truck is over 2400 lbs lighter than a 4wd truck and can not be compared as to mileage.

Do the F250 SD 4wd trucks actually weigh 8500#?

My 2wd weighs just over 6000#.
