Question 1966 F-100 body onto 1970 F-250 4x4 frame

Im planning on dropping the 66 body on the 70 frame. My question is, how much fabbing and retrofitting will I have to do to make the cab drop right onto the frame? I plan on putting a 428 CJ making 550 HP and 600 atleast in torque, built 4-speed, divorced transfer case, dana 60 front and rear with air lockers, 39.5 tires, 8" of lift, maybe 10, and a whole bunch of other stuff.

Another question is does anyone know a place to get an 8" lift for the 70 F-250 frames? The tallest one I can find is 4". I dont want to put on a body lift if I dont have to.

The 66 cab should drop on the the 70 front mounts. If the cab came from a 2 wheel drive You may need to drill out board bolt holes in the recessed stamped area as the 4x4 mounts are outside the frame. The wheel base is the same and the bed may need a few new holes drilled for the bed to mount.

The front sheet metal will all drop into stock holes in the frame for the rad support.

A 8" lift is a custom deal for a Highboy. Custom springs without lift blocks will do the trick.

If the cab eas an automatic or 3 speed on the column truck you will need to source the trans tunnel plate to allow the trans and T case to fit through. 65 to 79 is the same on 4 speed trucks.

I've got both a 66 and a 70 out in the back 40 square feet...I'v scoped out doing a similar swap...but these are 2x4s....I think the cab will drop right on that is what it looks like to me...very little is different on the frames...I do know the rear shocks are different but the front are exactly alike. I have done an r/r on a cab years ago..it was cinch and I bet you'll find your work accomplished with very little fabbing and retrofitting... The lift question...I have no clue...

All the best,

TH1567
If I could remember to say so every day.....I probably won't forget.

One thing I do recall as I was searching for the cab...I had rolled my truck and needed one.. was that a 4x4 cab would NOT work for my year truck (1966). Easy to tell because of how the pedals and steering column passed through the floor and firewall...

It is those areas where you'll prolly be 'fabbing' and borrowing parts from other trucks to make it work...Throttle....yes on a 66 that's a cable feed..on a 7-0 that's linkage...so there's that to consider...

Try to find a stock 61 to 66 4x4 and you'll see the difference straightaway...or at least pictures in the areas of concern...

There's one think I like to say in these circumstances...."It's gonna be interesting!"

Yep, the neighbor kids couldn't wait to help me put that cab on the chassis....we all got her done...not a one of us over 16
