Used F-250 Specs

I just recently bought an '04 F-250 with the 5.4L. I'm very pleased with this purchase but I'm wondering about some of the specs. The primary thing I'd like to know is the gear ratio at the axle.

Is it a 4.10? Maybe the 3.73? I don't have any idea but if I ever buy another gas engine truck in the future, this would surely help in my decision. We all tow so much, gear ratio is something fairly important to consider.

Anyone know any "simple" way to find this out? Could it be so simple as counting the number of driveshaft revolutions per one rear wheel revolution?

The driver's door pillar has the rear end ratio on it. If anything else, there is a tag on the axle cover with the ratio stamped on it.

There is a tag on the front and rear diff covers. It will be stamped on it. Example: 3.73 or if it has a limited slip it would be 3.73L etc. You might need a rag or sometimes even a small wire brush depending on the amount of gunk or rust on it.

Look at the axle code on the door pillar tag, as mentioned above...

31 — 3.73 non-limited slip, F-250/Excursion
C1 — 3.73 limited slip, F-250/Excursion
32 — 4.10 non-limited slip, F-250
C2 — 4.10 limited slip, F-250/Excursion

Thanks guys.

I couldn't read anything on the rear end itself except to only use synthetic gear oil.

My door pillar has C1 under the axle heading. Thanks Baja.
