injector meltdown, need info!

This 97 350 I got to replace my 96 250 has had an injector melt down. One of the injector wiring harnesses was burnt, so I thought I would replace the burnt weatherpack connector and valve cover gasket only to find the injector solenoid is melted. My question is will the fried solenoid cook my IDM and where can I find a cheap possibly used AA code injector to get me by until I have the funds to do it right? Any and all help is appreciated.
Justin

I wouldn't run the melt solenoid unless it tests fine. Check it with an ohm meter across both terminals. It shouldn't be higher than 2.5 to 3.5. If it is bad you can buy a new solenoid from Jim at Diy-injector.com for around $35 I think.

Its measuring 3.2 ohms through the wiring harness. Is that safe to run, TJ?

It should be safe. to run but if it melted from its own heat I would look at getting a new one anyway.

Here is the deal. The truck supposedly had an interior fire which was replaced and all is good. Well after I pulled the valve covers I saw two reman injectors and two that appear to be factory, but the plastic portions of the solenoid assy. are burnt. I just threw a spare valve cover gasket I had on there and a spare wiring harness. The miss has seemed to subsided for now. I think injectors and new wiring is in order. Also I was looking for some grey door panels, the ones I have are OK, but have a couple of cracks in them. Thanks for the info TJ.

If it just had a fire and the ohm meter looks good I would just run the injectors. Even if you get stage 1's most places will charge you for new solenoids for the damaged ones. Many won't even accept fire damage injectors. I think you will be fine unless those solenoids short out.
