Warnning For All 04 -08 F-150 Ownners

Read some post on FPDM on corrosion it is real and bad for s&g I check mine and it was cake with salt corrosion cleaned corrosion off fpdm and found hairline crack were plastic top meets the metal bottom sealed with rtv plan on priming & painting the unit to see if this stops or slows the damage if you do this inspect the unit carefully for any damage and don't forget to clean the frame mine is working but it will probably have to be replaced at sometime in the future. This mainly applies to winter environments ware road salt is used.

Not sure on the "s&g", but I think by "FPDM" He means "Fuel Pump Driver Module"

Pretty sure this is the thread that he was referencing: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/7...ont-start.html

Okay guys, enough teasing. I just went through a $1,200 repair bill because of the FPDM which is the Fuel Pump Drive Module. On my 04 it is located on a crossmember on the frame located behind the spare tire. You must remove the tire to see it and get at it to inspect it. By the way, my FPDM had a hole in the backside of the metal casing about the size of a nickel. If this sucker fails you might get lucky and all you will need to do is replace it, but if it fails badly it will fry the fuel pump which it did on my truck.

sorry about the grammar but I'm not an English major. the s&g (poop & smiles) fpdm = fuel pump driver module. When I went to reinstall the fpdm I noticed on the cross member were the driver sits is not flat has a slope on the driver side by the tire were one of the mounting bolts go. I think this is what caused the crack in the driver when I re tightened the bolt I only tightened it enough for the driver would not move. the crack is only a hairline but its a place ware water can enter leave you stranded when it shorts out.
I think this crack happened when the truck built but that is just my opinion.

A picture of this would be great.
I've been under the truck and inspected everything, except for that area, b/c I've never dropped the tire and inspected that area....a quick glance, but didn't notice anything special.

No recall does not effect safty just reliability. I removed the moldule and cleaned as much of the corrosion off that I could with a gasget scraper & 220 grit sand paper then primed & painted the exposed metal housing. sealed the crack with rtv first though.

If I could figure out how to post pics I would tried with the sparkplug change but could not get it to post. All the corrosion is on the back side you have to take it off to see it.
