Roger, are you talking about the piece that's near the bottom of the door post (hinge post)? Mine was relieved across the corners, and had a hole in the center. Looked to me like it was made to be pushed up into the post from the bottom, with tabs on 4 sides that folded over as it was pushed in. Then spot-welded.
