Welcome to FTE. No it's not a common thing. The biggest problem I've had out of mine in the last 257K miles was a chaffed wire that caused the motor to shut off.

Are you looking for a short block, long block, or complete engine? How much are you looking to spend? Do you plan to install any mods to increase HP or TQ numbers?

You could get a complete running engine from one of our Ford sponsors for about $10,000 since it sounds like you don't have a rebuildable core.

Looking to spend as little as possable. The head is being pulled in the next 2 days so will now more then. Am leaning towards a new crate motor with turbo and everything. Cheapest I have found here is $22000 for new crate engine. I am looking at getting a crate motor in or around Houston Texas as I have a freind of a friend there who will be sending a container to Australia in September and I should be able to throw it in .

If it's a stock engine that is almost completely unheard of. If it's heavily modified with late model rods.....it was just a matter of time.

I bought a forged Diesel Innovations long block with stage II injectors a couple years back and spent about $7500. DI can get you a reman short block for $3500 Diesel Innovations - Products

You must have missed the part about Australia.

Here's one link Powerstrokeshop.com

That's from a Ford dealer here in the states. Hopefully someone else has some good leads on some after market rebuilds.

You wont get 650 hp in Australia for that money. $22000 is for a new crate motor after it has no doubt gone through several hands. Hence I would like to know who sells them in the first place to knock out all the middle men

Another disturbing PSD window in the block. For your moolah, I would look for a Cummins. Of course a well cared for 7.3 will last you a looong time. Wonder what happened?

Australia must be awesome. I'd love to go there someday. Too bad you folks don't build trucks there. Good luck.

David at Diesel Innovations is a good guy. I would buy an engine from him in a heartbeat.

That is really odd. The rods were undoubted stressed before you got it, and just happened to break sitting there at the light. How old is the truck?

If I were to guess I would say that the engine had probably been stressed hard before it was allowed to warm up.....probably on several occasions.

DI is right there in Houston, so they should be able to get what you need. No idea if they'll do the overseas shipping, but they've always treated me right so I didn't mind passing it along.

I have made a few more calls and have got a complete long motor down to $15950
My only concern with buying from deisel inovations is if I have a waranty problem down the track. But I will give them a call and investigate it some more.

Hey Scott when you got your long moter did it include the turbo and manifolds

Big Poppa here in Australia you can not buy them new any more due to emmision laws so 2nd hand has gone through the roof they were $77 000 new I got mine for $60 000 with 149000 K's and that was cheap {not so much now} I have friends that have paid $85 000 + A harley Davidson model over here will go for $110 000

It is a 2002 F250 superduty XLT Burgndy red {with special block ventilation}

No. I bought a long block, not a complete engine. The turbo, pedestal, intake and exhaust manifolds, front cover with high pressure oil pump, oil pan, rear backing plate, glow plugs, and injectors came from the old motor.

I used new glow plugs, injectors, and water pump.....but you get the idea. The long block, without the injectors, was $5700. I did all my own labor, with the help of a friend. It took about two days to remove the engine, clean and swap parts and reinstall to running.
