I've heard it before... drill and tap the exhaust manifold for the EGT sensor.
But does it make that much difference whether it's in the manifold or the dp?

YES!! I think it was Rubberduck that did it but someone had two EGT guages one pre and one post turbo. I think it was a 500 or something degree diff at WOT. It also isnt as fast to get up to those temp post. It really isnt that hard to do in the manifold. I did mine with out taking it off. Just put some grease on the drill and tap to keep the shavings out.

I heard all the bad stories about it being in the monifold. honestly turbos are pretty tough and it wont hurt them a bit to pass a couple shavings through that you couldnt get out. It doesnt take long at all but the tapping you need to take your time with.

definatly preturbo, its a peice of cake to drill out, takes no time at all and nothing has to be removed.

Thanks everyone. It looks like I'll be mounting in the manifold.
Should I still use the 1300* as a max then when pre-turbo?
And since it'll show a faster cool-down what's the recommended shutdown time with a hot turbo?

If you are nervous about drilling into your manifold, you could also install the probe in the up-pipe. When I bought my truck it had a clamp-on pyro probe in the up-pipe so I just removed it and drilled the hole out to install the new pyro for my gauges. The only bad thing about an up-pipe install is that you don't have a whole lot of metal to thread the fitting into but a lot of us have it in the up-pipe with no probs. 1300* sounds like a good temp to not exceed pre-turbo.

I would say no more than 1250* as max all day long, in short periods you could go even more, and for shutdown I will wait to get 300*.
