Wont shift from park, brake lights work with pumping

So Wife got stuck at QT today. Wont shift out of park. Thinking fuse, I went to rescue her cute *** and found the fuse to be fine.
Now I this is where i get confused...
NO brake lights initially
Pumped them fast about 5 times, got the lights and the shifter back

good till I put it back into park.

Now it repeatable. Pump hard about 5 times, then shift.

ANY ideas???? Fuse is good.

Brake light switch would be the most obvious culprit. If you have your wife stand behind the truck when it won't shift out of park...see if the brake lights are coming on or back up the garage door and do the check.

Were you having the same problem as Inkme or did you change your name?

Ahh. Nice. How much did the switch cost and how hard was it to replace?

I just had to replace my switch as well, same problem. No tools needed to replace, just twist the switch and pull it out to remove the wire harness plug. The plug is the biggest PITA, might need a pair of plyers to squeeze the tab.

2007 Eddie Bauer Expedition with power pedals. Got the part from the Ford House. $35 plus tax. Brake light switch in and out in under 2 minutes. I used a 16 penny nail and pressed the tab down and it popped right out. Works like a champ now. Thanks for the info.
