Can't turn the steering wheel sitting still

I have a 01 F250 4X4 CC with 315/75/16 and if you are not moving you CAN NOT turn the steering wheel. Now if I am on gravel or really loose dirt I can with some ease, but on pavement FORGET IT. You have to be moving to turn the wheel at all. It has been this way since I bought it last summer. I have no pump noise and it is full of PS fluid.

Is this normal? This sucks when you are in a tight parking lot or trying to back up a trailer. Thanks

Look at your fluid again. These powersteering pumps take ATF fluid. They also power the power brakes. If you have PS fluid in the pump, flush it with the correct fluid.

Try changing to synthetic ATF. I switched to mobil1 synthetic and it helped smooth mine out a lot and it takes much less effort than it did with non synthetic in it.

Yea, its full, but now what its full with I do not know. I will change to synthetic ATF to see if that will help me out. I just can't believe that the 315's could make that BIG of a difference over stock size. Sitting on pavement in gear or not I can take both hands and still can not turn the wheel no more than 1/4 turn in any direction. I feel sorry for anyone with 37's or bigger. Thanks again.

My truck has always been hard to turn while sitting still. Ever since I picked her up new at the dealer.....never gotten any worse or better. I can usually let my foot off the brake and roll a little bit while I turn the wheel to get me out of tight spots.

Mine is the same and it drives me nuts. What I have read in here is that the PS and PB work off from a system (sorry I don't know what it is but someone will) that needs RPM's to build up pressure to get enough power to move them while standing still. I hope someone can give you a little better info. I have just learned to live with it and park in the "back 40".

I have tried the revving up the engine while sitting still, but it didn't help me out any. Plus doing that is kinda embarrassing say when you are at church or other quite places. Love the muffler delete.
