Started to replace the fan clutch and thought - what the heck - I should replace the water pump since I will be so close to it .... and then wondered what other parts would be recommended for replacement with an aero with that many miles on her in the water pump area?
Already replaced the thermostat couple months ago.
Have new oem fan clutch ready to put on.
Should I go ahead with a water pump replacement?
Lower radiator hose?
Return heater hose?
Timing chain and sprockets?
Timing chain tensioner? (or just chain and sprockets)
Not sure.. I have stock water pump. I will replace it if it will leak, but I saw aftermarket water pump rebuild kits. I tried to replace shaft, bearings and sealf of water pump on my tavria. Sold 7 years ago and I dont know how rebuilt water pump works. I draw 2 years with rebuilt pump.
How water pump died.... leaking water whashed lubricant away from bearings. Then it started noking, seized, damaged timing belt and car died. That's all. But people say that so many engines were destroyed with bad water pump.... And not idiot drivers kill them keeping riding with temp. gauge in red zone, but on some engines when coolant is low temp gauge reads 'NORMAL'

I'm sure I'm not even thinking of something..
Any help would be appreciated !
Thanks in advance

Mine still has original all parts listed above at almost 300,000 kms.
I would say replace the hoses for sure , check the weep holes in the water pump no weep/ leaks, no need to pull it off. Does engine have temp problem?
I reckon the timing chain assy is good for about 500,000 miles. However I believe you can test for backlash at a valve lifter (6* of engine rotation max).

All original powertrain except alternator & starter motor. 302,500 kms & going strong !
If you change the coolant on a regular basis, the pump will last a very long time.
The timing chain assembly will be good for a very long time, just change the oil and you should be good. If it fails, it is a rare random fluke.

Also keep in mind that most water pumps are of inferior quality tot he original motorcraft part. If you did decide to replace the pump you can get a new Motorcraft one for under $100 at Rockauto, or a new AC Delco for about $55.

Thanks for the input. I'm going to go ahead with a water pump, belt, lower hose. Got the gasket set for the pump with timing cover. If it the timing cover is like the rest of the engine.. I'm sure it leaks. I'll inspect the chain when and if I pull the cover... I'm sure once I put on the fan clutch - the pump would go in short order if I don't replace it.
