64 F100 help/update

I had posted that the truck I was looking at a possible 62 Uni-body. Turns out it was a 64 F100 Custom Cab Twin I beam. I just didn't have any more info on the vehicle when I posted the previous thread. I need help decoding a VIN - F10CP520582. How much would you say one of these is worth? Obviously it is hard to determine but a ballpark low and high. It does run but quits when not pushing gas down(gas comes out from behind the carburetor, what could this be. The interior is in 85-90% shape. Needs a windshield and drivers windows. Any help on how to get this running and stay running and what the leak could be would surely be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Welcome to FTE...as for the truck being a 64 twin I Beam truck...no way...65 was first year for it..64 and prior were all straight axle/leaf spring trucks up front.
The VIN breaks down as follows=

F10 = F series 1/2 ton 2WD pickup truck
C = 292 8 cylinder 2bbl engine
P = St.Paul assy.
520582 = March 1964 build date(445001-580000 was 1964 s/n)

As for the leak...my guess is the carb is leaking...if its been sitting a long time that would make perfect sense also as the gaskets shrink and crack over time.

Keep the help coming

Thanks for the info. I was just going by what the emblem on the sides of the hood said as far as the I beam goes. The title says it is a 64. I will post some pictures to help further this conversation.

those emblems can be bought to say anything you want them to {ranger, twin i beam, and i think custom cab but not sure on the CC} and, if i recall correctly, they arent all that much....

as for the carb question....

with the way the manifold sits on the Y-blocks... they are sort of raised up off the actual blocks... and theres a pump on the front of the carb, that connects with everything else, and every time you press on the gas, it sort of primes the carb. and if that is leaking, it could only make you think its leaking out of the back of the carb, due to the fan blowing over the motor, pushing gas to the back of the motor and driping down....

thats my personal experince... and damn i really need to get that fixed before i deside to go on any drivers more then a few miles... cause them headers are gonna get hot... hott hottt!!! and with gas leakin in there, theres a big chance, that i will have a BIG fire....

Pics of the new to me truck

Please excuse the color - I bought it this way. The year on the title say 1964 and the Vin number matches.

That is a 64 and it has the fender badges of a 1966 F-100 installed where the hood badges should have been on a 64.

Well that would explain it about the emblems. The way the carb is leaking I can see it coming out of the bottom of the carb when the car is not running. It is just pouring out of it once I choke and prime the engine. Once the vehicle is shut off it keeps coming out until the carb is empty. What can I do to fix this?? It starts but doesn't stay running.

Can you point out on any of those pictures where the fuel is coming out at? It might be as simple as just needing a rebuild. If you give us a better idea of where the fuel is coming out at we can give you a better idea.

On the third picture down, right in the middle of the picture where it looks like it is JB welded. Right under where the back of the carb is on the right, underneath.

Unless the fuel bowl and or metering plate were warped the previous owner could have fixed the leak with a new gasket. I would think you could do the same, however it will b e a lot more work since you will have to get all of that JB weld or what ever it is off. There is also a new style seal that goes on the transfer pipe between the two fuel bowls. They use to just be a simple O-ring on the end, I can not really describe what the new seals look like but they are a lot better. Personally I have never had good luck using after market carb rebuild kits on Holley's, but I also was lucky enough to come across a ton of Holley factory parts for free while I was in high school. The Holley gaskets just seam to fit the fuel bowl and metering plate a whole lot better.

I would give that a try before you go and buy a new carb. Good luck removing what ever it was the previous owner put on to try and seal it up.

Looks like the fuel leak is coming from the tube that feeds the rear fuel bowel. First, the tube is bent probably when the PO replaced the rubber hose and clamp directly below the tube. Second, there is an oring on both ends of the tube. You might be able to straighten the tube and replace the orings or just replace the orings.

If you got the bread...buy a rebuilt carb...if your long on time short on bread...buy a rebuild kit...many many unseen problems are circumvented by these two pathways.

Dig those retrograde 1970's Jamaican color scheme bradda....very cool I tink.

That is one ugly truck. No matter what you do it will look better. Carb rebuild kits are cheap you should put one in just for good measure.
