I would kind of like to know the answer to that myself, but maybe for the opposite reason. I also bought a '97 (used) a while back and while I have noticed the doors locking on my friends' newer trucks mine do not. I wondered if this was added later, but maybe mine have been deactivated, or maybe it doesn't have it? How do you know if it is supposed to have it? Other than power locks which mine has.

From what I have seen from comparing my f150 with friends of mine that also have f150s, keyless entry is what gives you the automatic lock when truck goes in motion. Your truck may have electric door locks, but without keyless entry the doors do not lock when you go into motion.

Try this:
You must complete the following within 30 seconds or it will not work...
Turn ignition key to ON.
Press the power door unlock control three times.
Turn the ignition key from ON to OFF.
Press the power door unlock control three times.
Turn the ignition back to ON. The horn will chirp.
Press the unlock control, then press the lock control. The horn will chirp once if the autolock was deactivated, or twice (one short, one long) if the autolock was activated.
Turn the ignition to OFF. The horn will chirp once to confirm the proceedure is complete.
Worked with my truck. Don't know if yours will be different.
Cheers.
