Error code 122

"Throttle Position Sensor below minimum voltage"

could this send a truck into a sort of "limp mode"" where the transmission would shift badly? trnsmission was shifting really hard, all gears

Waiting to hear back form the shop if there where any other codes with it.

Hey, sorry , You make a fair point...
it's a 93 XLT with the 351 and the e4od trans.

Posted a thread a couple months back, tranny was shifting REALLY hard, all gears.. otherwise running good

bought the scanner you guys reccomended and couldn't get any codes. tried shorting the ground on the scanner like it recommended, tried contact cleaner, no codes...

So I was stumped and too it to the transmission shop. they couldn't pull codes either. $75 in labor they found a busted wire in the test harness, pulled the code 122

saying that's a throttle position sensor, so they're nopt recommending internal trans service, $350 for the electronic diagnostics/repair, new TPS, plus a trans flush/filter/gasket. I dunno.... hate paying others to do this simple stuff but my weekends are shot I just didn't have time or energy to try and monkey myself...

But before I tell him to go ahead, is it reasonable that bad data from a TPS could be causing the computer to send bad shift info to the trans?

your bronco gets shift signals from various sensors. tps is possible but should and can be replaced by you for cheap and is located under the throttlebody taking 15-30mins max, i would not have a tranny shop touch a sensor on the engine as thats not what they specialize. another sensor that might be the issue is the MLP solenoid pack or even the sensor that sits on top of the rear pumpkin (also known as the VSS)

is your speedometer working properly? is your ABS light on at all?

Speedo words fine. No ABS light. Truck runs fine, idles normal.

And the shifting issue cam on suddenly... I don't have my haynes with me right now but are those other two sensors equally easy to replace? Only code was that 122, throttle position, so I don't suspect the others but who knows.

Also, I have a leak in the rear main, small one. For the 20-30 miles a week I drive this truck I can just keep putting an extra quart a month in it but if I did decide to do a repair (have it done) any idea ballpark what kind of cost I'm looking at?
