I was cruising craigslist and a guy has about 300 gallons and he is selling it for 1000 bucks. $3.33 a gallon sounds really good to me. I am unsure if it has die in it or not. If it does, I will leave it alone but if we can run it, I would be interested. I thought that in the Northern climates they run #1 in the winter so I thought it was feasible.

Well my neighbor and I built a complete trailer mounted rig for converting used vegtable oil complete with an electric fuel pump. I think that we can safely filter and remove any condensation and/or debris if we decide to get this supply. I just want to know if it will hurt anything if I do it.

I thought they mixed #1 & #2 up there in the winter time for your winter fuel? Number 1 will have a lower BTU content which means lower MPG's, and also needs more lubricity added to it. The big question is, how old is the fuel? Diesel can go bad just like gas.

I will look into it and see what I find out. I will let you know what comes of it. I buy fuel power service by the case and I quart treats 250 gallons so the lubricity issue shouldn't be a problem.

i would filter it out good before i put it in my truck..this goes from one place to the next in bolk and un filtered..in other words you dont have a gas pump that cleans the crud out before it goes into your tank...also mixing it with on road as you burn it is a good idea....you can also expect lower MPG..
I have a trailer with several 55 gallon drums with gradually smaller and smaller micron filters with water separators on it too. The pump is hooked up to the last holding drum for the finished WVO.

i hope i dont see you and your truck/trailer on TV...parked over a filler cap sucking fuel out the ground...lol might also check and see if the fuel is dyed...most heating oil is....
#1 will burn fine. We burn #1 here all winter. You see the #1/#2 blends in the late fall and then when winter really starts rolling it's all #1.
I would also check on how old it is. If you could pump it through a fuel/water separator all the better....

Isnt #1 fuel basically Kerosene? When I drove thru Montana they had #1 and #2 at the pump IIRC the #1 was cheaper by about $0.25 or so. When I sent the wife in to pay and ask the lady told her make sure he doesnt use the #1 or else he will be getting worse mileage and other things.

I have used really old fuel, and I mean really old in my motor home over the years with no ill effects. But, maybe I was just lucky. I did nothing with it but pump it out of several old 18 wheeler tractors and haul over to my motor home and pumped it in. That was years ago and the motor home (Cat 3208) still runs perfect.
