Anyone using or heard of anyone using the purple dot in their tail lights like they did back in the 50's and 60's on their '73-'79's? I thought about using them on my '74 but did'nt know what they would look like.
I have them in my taillights on my '78....they look good. If you look closely at your tallight there is a raised rectangle in the middle of the lens and I put them there.....I put a little silicone around them too when I installed it to keep water out.
I personally love blue dots, not sure on the ol' dentside though. Just be careful during installation, cuz if the bulb and "dot" don't line up properly it'll just look stupid and won't give the effect they're meant to.
On a side note...are those things still legal? Does anyone make them anymore? I see them from time to time on 50's-60's era cars, but just figured they were dots from the time period and were grandfathered in as being legal.
You know Ben, I'm not sure if they're legal here in Colo., but lots of folks do run them. I haven't seen them at the regular parts stores lately, but I think a lot of the Harley shops still have them. And I think (not sure) that they're still in JC Whit. Think I'm gonna' have to do some searchin' now!

I seen them in NPD parts book.I think they were going for almost 4 bucks each.I don't know if legal here in VA.Just thought about trying on the '74 and see what they would look like.Had them on a '56 chevy back in '82.Looked real cool.
You guys got any pictures of this contraption your talking about? I have never seen this that I recall. So this is placed in line with a bulb and it puts off a prurple ray of light?

it's more of a pinky/purpley color...but yeah you got the right idea.
If speedway doesn't have them then another hot rod supplier should.

Probably not. You really only see them on 50's and earlier cars and I'm sure those are grandfathered into the law or something.

Yeah I really dunno the laws on this, or know if any vehicles are exempt, or even if the guys that do have them are playing roulette legality wise, but I do know that now, and even for '77 that light from all my lights has to be projected a certain distance, the lenses have to have some sort of reflection, and the lights have to be seen from a certain distance, and the lights have to be displayed a certain color. I know this because I got pulled a few years back for weak lights due to a ground problem and I was given 30 days to fix it. So I guess if you can still meet all the requirements then you may be in the clear.
National parts depot has them for 3.95ea. page167 in their 1949-1979 Ford truck catalog./blue dot lens with chrome ring, add to any lens.Still don't know the laws here in VA.
