I'm looking at a 99 NON-Superduty f250 4x4. However, I am finding it very difficult to get any information on them, as it all pertains to the SD 250. I am aware of most of the differences, but do have some questions.
1. do these trucks have any major issues/common problems?
2. I'm assuming the front end is rather similar to the 150 component/design wise, did these have any problems other then the inherent weaknesses in all IFS designs.
3. it has a plow, and I would plow with this (an 8ft Meyers e-60). besides not being as strong as the solid front axle, what are the cons of this? my friends all run SDs or dodges and say they would never plow with an IFS truck. However, there does seem to be more then a few chevy owners out there that seem to push snow just fine.
I'm waiting to get the mileage, but it is a clean regular cab long bed. He is asking 5000 with plow.
Thank You all
hmm, i don't know. were all 99 non-sd f250's so equipped? thats kinda goofy. I never thought to count the lug nuts...
also what is the correct nomenclature for this? Non-Superduty? Light duty?
The 99 F250 he is talking about is pretty much the same thing as the 99 F150. It has a little beefier suspension and axles (alnog with the strange 7 bolt rims). In 2000 Ford decided to call it the F150 with heavy service suspension or something like that. Too much confusuon between it and the F250 Super Duty.
He should ask his questions in the 97-03 F150 forum. It actually mentions the 97-99 F250 Light Duty in smaller pring underneath the main forum name. 1997 - 2003 F150 - Ford Truck Enthusiasts Forums

The f250 LD in 97-99 had many variations. In general the frames, torsion bars, rear springs, rear axle and wheels were heavier across the entire model. However, engines, tires, transmissions and other options were not consistent.
When the F250 LD was dropped for the 2000 model year, and the 7 wheel lug truck became an option package called the F-150 7700, options were more consistent and limited. All trucks came with a "heavy duty" automatic, although it is still debated if it was always a 4r100, 5.4L engine, 10.25 semi floating rear axle, heavy rear springs (with a very high rear payload, mine had 2900lb bed capacity), upgraded cooling, upgraded spindle bearings, torsion bars, frame section, brakes of course were different same as a lightning.
My guess on the wheels is that they didn't want someone to try and put the superduty wheels on there if they used 8 lugs. Guess they could have made the bolt pattern different somehow...
