99 Expy A/C Leak

Mechanic identified a leak in the A/C Discharge system. $398.21 for the part plus labor plus recharge, we're looking at over $700. My question is does the whole Discharge system need to be replaced or can the hoses that connect to the system be changed out. The part number he put on the estimate is for the whole system.

Your description makes no sense.

There's nothing called a "discharge system" nor is there a part number for the "whole system".

Perhaps he was referring to the discharge line, the muffler, or the manifold...

A second opinion and estimate is suggested.

The quote lists it as the A/C Discharge Line Part #XL1Z19D850BA. Here is what I could find online.

MOTORCRAFT Part # YF2580 {#XL1Z19D850BA}
Category: A/C Refrigerant Hose
Here is the picture.

Now it makes sense.

The manifold and hoses are stocked as a complete assembly. There are different versions for vehicles with and without rear air.

Plan on also having the accumulator replaced.

These parts are also available from Four Seasons (after-market), however, site sponsor Rockauto has the Motorcraft parts at very attractive prices. That said, if you're having the work done at a shop or dealership, the chances of being able to use your own parts is pretty close to nil.
