Loose parts with oil filter removal

When servicing my 95 PSD, I started turning off the oil filter and parts started dropping. I eventually found a spring, fiber disc and a washer from a port between oil filter nut and the housing base for the filter gasket. I called Ford parts and the only service is the entire oil filter housing - didnt even price. I have a 94 IDI, this 95 PSD, 95 460, 97 PSD and a 97 PSD that Im parting out. So I pulled the filter off of the 97 and it is different. There is the same mechanism but it is held in by an internal snap ring. After looking closer at the 95, it has four dimples on the perimeter of the washer housing to hold the washer up against the spring and there is no room or groove for a snap ring. So here is how I fixed, put everything back up in place and used a center punch to make more pronounced dimples. It seems to be very secure. My question is (A) how much pressure is on this? (B) any damage done by running it until found? (C) will this repair do it or should replace the housing? I would like to save the 97 PSD for the 94 IDI someday. Any idea what may have caused this to happen? Since last change, I towed 15K behind it coming off Monarch Pass (10000 elevation). I am putting a EBV style exhaust brake on it because the 4" exhaust doesnt hold back like the stock did. My record towing weight on these 250s is 23,040 GVW# behind the 95 460. Not an official weight from CDot, though.

The old model is only staked in in the first place ,,,the newer ones have a snap ring ,, if you re- staked it well , ... spring ,, washer ,,then disc...you should be fine

I agree with Rick. Since you're fixing on it anyways, add a few extra stakes to make sure it doesn't fall out again.
